hmm, i know. She's ok physically(more bruised from falling off the bike earlier that day) but shaken up and keeps re-living the moment. I'm doing what I can to be there for her and looking after her. To be quite honest I could not give a fuck about my injuries/bhike right now. What is really hurting and angering me is how she has taken it all. Thanks guys for all advice and generally listening to me!

Man, props for caring about your lady and to both of you for not just letting them walk over you. I hope you're both all ok soon.
Stories like this are really starting to put me off the thought of moving into London. I'd be tempted to leave the paint on the bike, make it less appealing to the scumbags.

Firstly, thank god your not both seriously injured. Your girl will get over it - she's traumatised but it will pass with time. The bike doesn't matter - its a piece of metal with some rubber bits and can always be replaced / repaired.
My main point is that if this ever happens to you again in the future, let them take the bike. As mentioned earlier in the thread, a £400 otp bike isn't worth getting stabbed for (although to be honest a £2000 bike isn't either). Well done for standing up for yourself but all it would have taken was a boot in the head from just 1 of the 16 and you could be dead or brain damaged.
It really isn't worth getting into a life threatening situation with multiple attackers over a bike of any value. Your life is more important and sadly the kind of people that commit these crimes dont give a f**k about it.
I also ride along that canal path regularly myself and will be extra cautious from now on.

tiswas, shes not like that at all, I'm worried though as she is really shaken up at the moment so main priority is making sure she's ok. I don't want to come across as racist or whatever but i agree with dov, some of these people do fuck all apart from suck money which could be spent better and cause misery for other without ever actually acheiving anything beneficial to anyone.
if we want to talk about people fucking up the country and stealing all our money, they are british.
who started two wars that has now led to the killing of hundreds of british and thousands upon thousands of american, iraqi, afgan, people?
who oversaw the meltdown of our economy and is now PM?
who is profiting from losing all our money?
these actions are of a far greater scale than some immigrant claiming benefits.

Your missing my point, I am purely talking about this kind of incident... Bike related.

Stuff like this just makes me think "Hulk, ANGRY"
This is pure observation on my part. The 4 times I have been directly involved (ie: victim of) theft/violence/ hassling and general disturbance in london, in 1 year has been 2 black, and 2 white. Equal, convenient but true. Doesn't matter what your background you can still be a degenerate fuck.
Hope you can move past this, and don't ever let a bike put your or your partners wellbeing at risk.

I think its fair to comment on immigrant crime, if its violent, and targets cyclists. If its second generation black kids that are the ones that do bike-grabs, then there's nothing wrong in at least debating that fact.
I tell my daughter, who is black, which groups of people to not expose her expensive mobile phone to. Thats not racist, its just advice.
Gordon Brown is not to blame for the wars in our names, though I see your tenuous connection. Also, if living in the UK, its a bit rich to take umbrage with general British life. The banking system is old-school-tie, and largely anglo-saxon in the make-up of its major players, but that doesn't negate the statistic, that muggings and bike grabs, are more often done by the immigrant demographic.
You may take offense at someone defending what you find difficult to abide, but this is what the white-made parliament was all about in the first place. And my knowledge of history, makes me grateful for the rights I have, and the white people that fought for them.

Damn sorry to hear what happened man, sounds rough and quite scary.
It's not black people that commit these kinds of crime, generally speaking it's poor people with a shit family background.
In London these people happen to be majority black, but in other big cities, they're white, asian, whatever.
Background and upbringing, not skin colour.

i agree with the posts above, perhaps i didnt make myself clear, but i was talking local, and the age group of around twenty years and younger. There is no need for such violence.
Again I'd like to say iwas unaware the bike was being taken at first, i saw it move and grabbed it as it was at my side. I didnt see the shits at first i thought oh no my bikes falling. Gf is in a really bad way, I have been looking after her all night. I wont deny I'm angry now, only because of what has happened, I can only wish that what goes around comes around for them. I dont give a fuck about my injuries or bike right now. I'm worried about the head injuries as prior to all of this i am being treated and yet not all to sure but getting headaches which fuck my vision, speech and everything else. Sorry for my rant, I feel really bad for all of this happening and really feel guilty for my love to be involved.

he wasn't the answer to all those questions, just the second one.
Also, if living in the UK, its a bit rich to take umbrage with general British life.
i am white british and have a general disdain for typical "british" values, and am ashamed of the majority of our history.

i was just highlighting that the major swindle's generally go unnoticed because they are not as in your face as a punch in the face

i don't understand the first sentence?
whites that fought for them? what about the gurkhas/indians/blacks that also fought and died for them?

good luck with your health man, please don't take my comments negatively, they aren't meant as a personal attack or anything like that. would counselling or something similar be helpful for the both of you? you could probably get it free.

i'm fine, i have had worse, i am just really upset about what my partner has gone through, believe me, that hurts more than anything in the world. Earlier that day we were discussing flats we were looking at... Velo, none taken! I have already said to her about councelling, she is in shock now, so i'll give it a few days. She is an amazing, intlligent person, but somethings can give a real knock. Ps sorry for grammar, spelling and paragraphing, new phone, still cant workthe thing

ok, velo.... tried to PM you phone dropped message.
the jist of the message was that I didn't get point across correctly and wish to apoligise if i caused any offense, it was a heat of the moment/ arse end of concussion.I had only just settled her down, she keeps waking in tears, this is what is hurting me as well. I feel so guilty for the whole thing, I felt the bike slip, i thought it was going to fall and i caught it, and thats where it all went so wrong.
She keeps waking during the night, in panics now... Sorry for the babble on my behalf. I'm trying to be the best I can for her but I feel like the biggest cnut on the planet.
I'll stop blabbing on like a fool now as my head and other things are killing and I have work tomorrow. I just wish people who do this would realise its not just a fucking bike at the end of the day, its lives. I'll sgut up now as i probably seem stupid.

assume you mean the narrow boat pub on the canal & st peters st, islington. FYI - I live a block away from there, and stumbling home on Fri night (about midnight) was two undercover and another patrol arguing with a group of 10 or so guys that matched your description. the usual crims in the neighbourhood are 12-14yo schemies, these guys were a bit older and really yelling back at the cops. this was outside the duke of cambridge on St Peters St.
obviously this information is pretty much useless - but just thought your incident might be connected
-
• #94
possibly, thanks for that, the police did say the group was on a rampage with a few incidents before as well.

Damn, this sucks dude. Heel up soon. I've been through a couple of bad incidents with my missus and they definitely handle it in a different way. The best thing is to just be there i guess.
Lets hope these little cunts get whats coming to them, and i don't mean a PS3, a "yoot" project, and more sports equipment for their poor unprivileged lives.

gatti, thanks... that will be a new keyboard for me now!
I agree with you as well!

sucks ass what happened to you / misses / bike / boat / wasted paint.
cant even imagine what i'd be like to front up against 16 people. thats like a football team and a half. even if i got just punch from each of them that'd be game over. well done on your behalf.

Hi Ben, thanks for that, its with islington police, pm me if you want the reference numbers. Thank for the help on this. Seen a few guys which are notorious for stuff a few doors away from me attempting to ride a fixie so told everyone here to watch out for it as well to get a better description, I will post on here with their address in the private section and pix if I can.

ok, just an update - the bike frame I have seen is a dark frame, silver wheels and tan leather handlebar tape and saddle. Seen from a distance and did the best i can with an 55mm lens at iso 3200. My guess is its a charge plug. It seen taken into a flat off old street into flats. for more info pm me as I have the address, etc. if this sounds like yours or someone you know.
jamesiw, I'm glad you're okay. That sounds well frightening.
