I think i have it sorted now, the thing i was doing wrong was putting the washer in the wrong place. I was putting it between the screw head and the green thing rather than the other side of the green thing. They seem to work now but they are not very 'neat'. the silver spring enclosure does not fit snug and sort of rattles. may have to get the lbs man to have a look.
