  • commencal absolut 1 very nice frames nice geo / large bmx in effect

  • Far out, so many choices. I have to admit my ignorance.... I had no idea there was that much out there. I'm going to have to build something a touch higher spec than intended. Cant wait to try SS on some trails.

How much adjustment for chain tension is there when comparing an eccentric hub to an eccentric BB?

    BTW
eccentric hub + disc brakes = PITA + expensive adaptor thing*
eccentric BB + disc brakes = easy peasy lemon squeasy

The other option other than slotted disc mounts + horizontal drops, is paragon drop-outs. Found on quite a few frames including the Voodoo Wanga.

  • Dialled Bikes Love/Hate. Amazing bike, rides brilliantly and you'll never regret it.

Do I have it right? £265 for the frame and BB? OK more than I wanted to spend but that is good. Plus the ability to build into geared easily.

I guess for the moment I'd be sticking some rigid forks. Just cant afford decent bouncy ones yet. IMO theres no point scrimping on suspension.

  • that is the old price*. *the new Price is £325 including UK delivery. there was a pre-order offer but this has passed.
    *
"Unfortunately, due to increases in just about every factor of production (materials, exchange rates, shipping costs, etc) the Mk2 Love/Hate frames will retail for around £320 including UK delivery when they arrive in the UK. However, we know that a lot of people have been waiting for us to re-stock this frame so all those people who have e-mailed to ask if they can pay a deposit on the new Love/Hate can now do so and they will receive preferential pricing of £265 (including UK delivery), which is what the Love/Hate originally cost in 2005/6 when first released."*

  • Damn. I can actually get the on-one with FSA headset for 135 according to their site. I already have wheels and a KMC chain+39 tooth chainring. and found an ok looking 17t freewheel. Found an old ritchey 80mm stem in my bag o bits. Might even pull the Shimano Tiagra cranks off the pug (170mm) for now. I figure the gearing will be OK for street and flattish trails.

Need to shop for/beg for Seatpost, Forks, BB and brakes. Mechanical or hydraulic? I have only ever used rim brakes so no direct experience with discs

Also. The EBB. is it one unit or do you buy the BB (say something with a sqaure taper) and then purchase a compatible eccentric shell? I'm not trying that hard but cant find a price for the PW EBB they use on the Love/Hate

  • you just have to buy a normal BB (square taper, octolink, hollowtech etc).
you can buy the shells and eccentric bb's from framebuilders supplies but fitting the larger shell into an existing frame is a lot of work as there are 4 tubes to mitre and get straight, you are better off building from scratch or just buying an OTP EBB frame.

  • Just bought a roadrat.

Fuck me I have allot of bikes now.

  • nice hybrid.

  • Im originally from shoreham so DMR DMR DMR!
Been a fan of their simple yet thrashable bikes for years

  • how do paragon drop outs work? do they have a sliding section where you slide part of the dropout along rather than sliding the axle along the dropout?

  • Just found a picture of my old Dialled. What a great cross country bike that was.

    Thats pure porn right there.
I want your bike history. But all at once. Shite sometimes its almost as frustrating as listening to Haj's latest skip finds ;)

The whole drop-out, including the disc caliper mount slides. So the position of the disc brake caliper is always the same relative to the disc.

  • now that just doens't look safe to me

  • now that just doens't look safe to me

    Why not?

There are thousands of these dropouts in use all over the US and UK and I've not heard of a single bad report despite the numerous forums I spend time on.

  • just an opinion
i just like the look of huge great chunky bits of metal holding my wheels on

are the horiazontal and vertical stays actually connected or does the attachement hold the rear triangle to gether it's difficult to see from this angle

  • The grey part is wielded to the frame like any other drop-out.
The hub and brake caliper is attached to the yellow part.
The yellow part can slide back and forth within the grey part but cannot twist (important for caliper positional stability).
When the everything is set-up the wheel with its 'extra' drop-out is double bolted the frame drop-out.

  • can you fit other drop outs (track ends)?

  • Don't mind me, i'm not looking hard enough. just noticed they can slide..

My new frame has a split in the drive side drop-out, for belt installation. The break is bridged by a plate (several mm's thick) screwed to both the top and the bottom of the inside of the drop-out. Still looks like a bullet proof set-up to me.

Now that doesn't look safe to me :-)

    The neatest solution out there. And useless memory aside here are the bikes I have had over the last few years (nothing special but bit of variety);

Fixed - Mercian (1970s), 3 x Surly Steamroller, EAI Bareknuckle, Colnago Dream Pista, Dolan Precursa
Singlespeed - Dialled Love/hate, Orange P7, Cannondale 1FG, Santa Cruz Chameleon, Felt Breed

Did'nt look too safe to me either. I looked everywhere for a better pic, but found nothing. I was bloody relieved to see that little keystone affair is actually part of a thick plate which the pics dont show.

Yeah, it was the single speeds that you've mentioned in the past that caught my eye.

  • My Voodoo:

Personally I think the sliding dropouts are a bit of a faff if you know you're never going to want gears, I'd prefer a sliding disc mount and track ends I think, look nicer too.

    Nice bike!

  • Digging up my old thread here...

This what I am intending to purchase to begin the build. There are a few grey areas like what cranks/BB and what brakes but i think this is a good place to start. Whaddayareckon?
