I didn't think Evans usually stocked single speed gear?

^ You say that Jon, but I went into Evans on The Cut last week for a half-link and the guy told me they didn't exist!?! And he apparently rides 'a fixie' too... I almost lamped the cnut... BC didn't get their delivery so they're out atm...

They stock those Charge 'Masher' half-link chains in all their shops.

Sorted, cheers for the help - Evans does stock the Charge ones.
While I'm here, any advice on how best to use it? I hear half-link chains can be a lot weaker, so am I better off just using a single link from it, or just whacking on the whole lot?
-
• #12
use only as many as you need, the less the better
-
• #13
Do you know how to join chains? Rate yourself out of 10.
If it's less than 7, then you might consider using the whole chain, since you'll have only one link to join/pin to fuck up. -
• #14
Point taken hippy. I've done a few in my time but since it looks like I'll be doing it in the street, I'll probably use the lot.

If you have to ask, get the shop to do it.
You either purchase a single half link from some place that stocks them like Condor or a complete chain al la the charge one.
Only fuck around with chains if you know what you are doing, see illustration:

Thanks for the help guys, Evans actually did the job. What's more, I made it home with the majority of my teeth intact.

do people realise you get the same amount of adjustment from using a single half link as you do with having a whole chain of half links? do they just get the whole chain because if how it looks or do they think because there are so many half links it will give them infinite adjustment?

I heard a guy in the Evans at St Pauls telling some girl a single/fixed was "a kind of lifestyle-bike..." WTF is "lifestyle" about a particular arrangement of the drive-train..?!??
I butted in and said "It tends to get you from A to B really fast, but it is a bit of an effort on the hills." She told the guy she wasn't fussed about speed and didn't want any effort on hills, so they stopped fucking about and moved on to the girlie-gearengers.
Lifestyle, my arse.

Sure, but Evans didn't stock single links.
Hi all, does anyone know where I might be able to track down a 1/8 half-link chain link today as close to Soho as possible? Looking like I might not be getting home without one...
