Our variation was to avoid Gatwick and ride through Horley - cheat sheet is below

Skive's route avoids Reigate Hill and the one-way and for that reason might be a better route, however I have no knowledge of Croydon.
Plingboot's looks fun for those West or for those starting at Richmond Park and in need of more riding.

After Mitcham, this route is largely quiet.

MITCHAM - WALLINGTON - REIGATE - HORLEY - TURNER's HILL- SELSFIELD - ARDINGLY - WIVESFIELD GRN - DITCHLING

Clapham South
L-Tooting Broadway Stn (Mitcham Road)
R-(road curves past Tooting BR)
L-Upper Green (towards Mitcham Junction) KFC on RIGHT/KEEP the GREEN on your LEFT

S - A237 to through Wallington...downhill into
R - Chipstead Valley Road (Right at the POST OFFICE mini r'bout)..& 300m
L - Portnalls Road (1st Hill)

S- Couldsdon Lane
L - High Road (towards Brighton road (A127)
S - Blackhorse Lane
R - Brigton Road (over M25)
2nd Exit - Reigate Hill (downhill - FRONT BRAKE!/Busy Road/Walk down?)
Reigate one way - A217 to Gatwick
L Bell St (signs to A127 Gatwick)
R Lonesome Lane (2 roads after "Woodhatch" junction _Petrol Station at main junction)
S Meath Green Lane
R(1st L) - Vicarage Lane
S Victoria Road towards and passed Horley BR
R Balcombe Road (B2306) (Gatwick on R)
L - Antlands Lane (B2307) under M23
S - then R Effingham Lane
R - W Park Road
S - Turner's Hill Road (B2028) (2nd Hill) & Turner's Hill pub/shop

S - Selsfield Road stay on B2028 to Ardingly
S - Lindfield Road to Lindfield
L - Lewes Road (B2111)
R - A272 towards Hayward's Heath (1st Left)
1L = Slugwash lane
R - Green Road to Wivelsfield
L - Common Lane (Ditchling) *(3rd Hill)
S Beacon Road - Ditchling Road to BRIGHTON
Note one small hill after Ditchling.

All hills except Ditchling are doable fixed but take care downhill into Reigate town centre.
