  • Make sure there is no play in the spindle, then rotate it with crank arms removed. Check if it feels smooth. If not, open it up and check for pitting;

    Clean away all grease, then feel around the cups with a pen. Then do the same on spindles where the bearing run. You will probably find something, if not you may have to change bearings.

    Also, be sure that all your chainring bolts are tight.
