yeah, I might also want my bike when I travel several times in the next few weeks...only reason I'm asking here. plus, might be easier to get it on plane? thus saving cost? but then I pay anyway? who knows.

+1. a bike is better than most soft bike bags. pack it with bubble wrap, styro piping and clothes for protection

I thought about the clothes thing! I have some sweaters that won't fit in my luggage, thanks for the confirmation.

I usually wrap the bike in a blanket when I have to check-in the bag. If you have a bike you are precious about this is obviously not good enough.
Am looking for a bike bag - something on the cheap side, just the sort of thing I can throw in a trunk or on a bus if I need to get somewhere. Leaving Wednesday so would need to hear back by Monday for Tuesday pickup at the very latest. Just a shot in the dark to see if I can make something materialize.
