• i want them

  • Dura Ace do a 13, about the smallest I've seen, ask the polo guys about biggest, possibly up to 24.

  • 26 is the biggest I've seen, like hens teeth though.

  • Phil do a 12t but anything smaller your chain would be bouncing off the lockring i think

  • Sugino Gigas 12T (NJS)

  • 26 is the biggest I've seen, like hens teeth though.

Yeah, I swapped a SomaFab 23t ( the largest I've seen widely availible) for a 26t from GeorgeSportif. Have'nt had a spin on it yet though.

    12t would be the smallest.

Well that was a fun thread.

  • I've seen an 11, Tofu had one, he showed it to me, had a wide groove cut around the shoulder so the chain would sit...why the hell you would want one is a different matter.

  • hasn't micro gears taken off yet?

I've got a Suntour 12t, and it only works with some lockrings, can't remember which ones now. It would also depend on which chain you use, as they don't all have the same height side plates. E.g. DID NJS chain plates are 9.5mm, but SRAM PC971 (3/32") are only 8.4mm

  • i have a 28 on my giraffe unicycle that runs a fixed gear

  • half link chains can run much smaller cogs - as low as 8 tooth apparently

you can get 8T sprockets that fit on a bmx freewheel

  • bmx cassette*

    freewheels only got to 13t

An ordinary Wippermann 1Z1 works fine on my 9t, but the issue with fixed is not getting the chain to wrap round the sprocket, it's getting it to miss the lock ring. In fact, any ordinary roller chain will, in theory, work down to 4 teeth, the exception being derailleur chains with flared inner links which prevent them from bending to 90 degrees.

8 teeth is the practical minimum for a BMX driver because you have to get a sensible sized axle through the middle of it

  • whats the biggest and the smallest chainring?

  • whats the biggest and the smallest chainring?

The biggest is on the outside - the smallest is closest to your frame.
Listen Dougal, we've done this before. Remember? The cows in the field? Big = close. Little = further away.

  • whats the biggest and the smallest chainring?

Smallest would be a 12t sprocket on a threaded trials crank. Biggest depends on your BB height; about 130t would be the limit on a track frame with a 290mm BB height

  • i've got a 52 teeth chain ring i haz

  • whats the biggest and the smallest chainring?

  • 700c chain ring
