this has been talked about before, if you'd searched. i was thinking about it for polo (about 2 years back i think) but apparently there is quite a bit of play in the hub. superTed at fgl had one for a bit a long while back. an interesting project, give it a go. ... or wait to see if the rumored SA 3-speed fixed hub will be re-released...

I've been thinking about this so I can stop flipping my wheel for polo...
Have you done a search, I'm pretty sure there's already a thread about it... and I'm certain someone's had one, because I asked about it at souths the first time I went...
When I was looking before there was a statement from someone claiming to work for the new owners of SA and they were planning to re-release the fixed hub... oh Matts beaten me too it...

pow! biff! blamo!

btw it will probably be no good for polo because of a cable which runs from the hub axle to the shifter. It would be right in the way unless you can sort some internal routing system under the chainstay?..

I Was thinking of not actually having the shifter on the bars, but just the end of chain, put a pin through the chain to lock it... So wouldn't shift while riding, but would still be better than flipping the wheel.

Internal geared bottom bracket FTW

Granted, the 14 tooth difference between the two ratios is quite a large. My thinking was that an 8-9 tooth range would be sweet.

I always thought this would be fun to do when I first saw it on Sheldon. Would love to have a go if anyone ever does it.

I was reading about this last night as I've got a AW hub sitting around in my Garage waiting to be turned into something.

wonder how that would handle the torques with an octalink bb and all that. my bet is that it wouldn't like the back pedaling/resistance that fixed gear and polo would dole out.
Hello,
I was thinking of building a fixed sturmey archer hub as copied from Sheldon Brown (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/awfixed.html)
Was wondering if anyone had experieencce of doing it? Or know anyone that has?
PS Didn't know if here or the mechanics section were better for this sort of post
