It you are coasting on a geared bike or single speed, you would presumably release the pressure/tension in your legs and therefore all shocks would be taken on the saddle.

nope when you free wheel you are more likely to stand a lil off the bike bum just off the seat and really effectivly take the shocks into your arms and legs much much harder to do on fixed. i ride both fixed and geared equally and any one who rides gears seariously only really free wheels when you hit dodgy road surface (or getting tired i will admit) where you, as i said, stand a lil off the seat and let the bike bounce around under your arms and legs
