Wanted: Vintage 26" x 1 3/8 Front wheel and forks.

  • Hi all,

I recently bought an old Ladies bicycle for my girlfriend's birthday. Unfortunately DHL decided to smash the thing in transit so I now have to replace the front wheel and forks, or the bike is a write off...

As you can see in the photos the forks and wheel aren't recoverable. Doe's anyone have any spares lying about/know any good places to look, bar the obvious eBay. Colour doesn't matter as I'll be doing some respraying on the bike anyway.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated,

    Gary

  • out of curiosity, did dhl pay out cause they ruined your bike?

  • I'm currently trying to sort that out. The most I can get is £50 because that was the insurance limit... I need to try and fix it asap though because it's my girlfriends birthday at the end of the month and I know it may be a tricky task finding the parts.

  • Hi Gary

How long is the steerer on the forks. I've got quite a few old bikes lying around and may have some forks and a front wheel. problem is they are in Lincoln. Could bringthem down to Mildenhall at the end of the month if that is any good.

    Dave

  • The steerer is approximately 190mm when I've measured it, but I could be slightly off. I'm actually planning to drive up to Sunderland this weekend so I could bring the bike up to see if any of your forks and wheels, if that's ok with you? I'm in a bit of a hurry to try and get this fixed because it's a surprise for my girlfriend's birthday at the end of the month.

    Cheers,

    Gary

I'll have a look for forks and a wheel tomorrow and let you know if I've got anything suitable. Sure you can call in on your way up/back to Sunderland, we are only about 15 miles off the A1 if you get off at Newark. I'll give you my mobile number if I've got anything suitable and you can call me when you are on your way with eta.

  • I would have thought suitable forks are everywhere on every abandoned old 70s bike, unless it's a dutch bike with really long head tube. Is that a raleigh? the mudguard looks like a Raleigh Tourist one.

If you can get to east drinks tomorrow I can supply a lovely chrome rimmed 26x1&3/8 wheel with sturmey archer rim and hub, and a reasonable tyre. suitable for caliper or roller-lever brakes.

  • Cheers Dave!

How much are you looking for the wheel Blue? Also, where's East Drinks....London yeah?

  • erm call it £25? i have no idea.
easts is at the Royal Inn on the Park, 111, Lauriston Rd, London, E9 7HJ

  • Ooooooh East Drinks! I got you.

Unfortunately I'm based in Harrow so it's a bit of a mission to get there. Think I'll hold off for now until I get the forks sorted. Could you email me a photo so I can see what condition the wheel is in? My email address is garymitchell.design@inbox.com.

I'll give you a shout when the forks are sorted.

    Cheers.
