  • is that the spacing between the rear part of the frame that holds the wheels?

  • spacing between dropouts, yes

  • the forks look a little bent? Just me..?

  • Just you.

  • fair enough, i always think forks look bent. I take it back.

  • Given the large clearances and the fact it has cantilever brake mounts I'd guess it was possibly a cross bike frame of some sort, be strange to see one with horizontal dropouts though.

  • I don't think that the forks are original.

  • I don't think that the forks are original.

Typically racist sentiment that could only come from a foreigner.

I'm guessing they're not original, the rear brake hole's been filled so It's been fixified at some point.

  • No sir, they're centre pull brakes. Was probably an old hybrid, or cross bike as said.

  • ahh, cheers for the replys chaps.

aye, i don't think the forks are original, i'm guessing the forks would have looked like these:http://www.beangolemstudio.com/media/images/babe_full.jpg (
thats a very uneducated guess BTW...)

one suggestion thats been given is that it was a track bike for races where alot of people were riding. the back brake being needed for extra control...

  • my mate bought a raleigh flyer off ebay and we went to pick it up yesterday, and ended up coming home with 2 bikes.i really didnt pay alot for it but i dont know what make or model it is,the guy didnt know either.everything seems ok on the bike apart from the bent forks.i wondered if anyone could tell me what the frame is

    cheers ross

  • As do the branded hub and seatpost nuts.

But the forks look bent as though it's been crashed into a wall.

Just a cheap generic tourer frame - witness the lamp braze-on, and the gear hanger attached to the axle.

  • Not only the fork look bent but the front part of the bike look a little bent - avoid like the swine.

  • not worth turning into a fixie then?

  • The seat stays looping over the seat tube could be holdsworth no?

  • i think fixie!

  • think yours is in better knick but check this out http://www.londonfgss.com/thread27112.html

  • i think fixie!

with a possible crash damaged frame, it's not safe, let alone ridable.

  • the frame dosent look bent at all.what would be the best way to check if the joints are ok?ill get some more forks like

  • look at how close the front tyres is to the downtube, and it's a touring frame, there should be a bigger gap between those.

you can check by either taking it to a bike shop and take their opinion, or check it yourself carefully.

  • From the lugs and the wrap around seat stays I'd say its a carlton, most probably after they were bought by raleigh, it's heavy and it's been crashed, don't bother doing anything to it, looks like one for the dunghill.

  • Its looks like a carlton touring frame. My mate used to have one. Its made from gas pipes and weighs as much as a moped. Don't go throwing money at it unless of course you have too much to worry about it.

  • It's definitely an Alfie Noakes of yorkshire, or a Harry Monk.
