You can target advertising better through FB than through Google, so I reckon FB can charge more per ad, plus can do marketing tie-ups more lucratively. Whether it's a sustainable business model I don't know though, seems very subject to fickle fashion. Look at how MySpace crashed and burned.
Could account in some part (and others of its ilk) for why so much advertising has left the newspapers though.

"You can target advertising better through FB than through Google"
How so?
And, you really think it's banner ad revenue that's making google?

Err.. wtf?
How do you think businesses are found these days?
Where do you think google are getting the money to make mobile OS?
Arsebook will be dead in 3 years. Google will be bigger than ever.Think google know that the future of search is kinda dead, they are looking for second play ie their Mobile platform, their OS and chrome browser..
Facebook are doing the same but with cloud services, now they have the creators of Gmail & googleMaps just watch facebook do new things. Both companys know the future is in the browser & FB are the Apple to Google's big M$ness

The future of search is dead. Why?
"second play"? It's called expansion.
The creators of Google Maps still work for Google and have just created Google Wave.
No idea about the Google Apps but they will get stronger as more users get on Google browsers, mobile google, etc.. all designed to work really well with Google Apps.
Facebook are the Apple to what the hell are you talking about? Google is an MS competitor now.

i am not behind the new.. infact use up2date newsThat tells me that it's become a bit popular with advertisers. Well done them for recognising a social trend.. just as it starts declining in popularity.

Not yet they don't. And it's still about the brand, not the search engine software.
Are you even reading these articles? Why don't you do a little comparison between google earnings and yahoos or ms's and their market share and then have a look at facebook's piddling status.

Again, MS release BING and then strike a deal with Yahoo, a search engine company, not some social networking company.. what does that tell you?

Facebook is “already doing more than $500m in revenue this year almost without trying. If Facebook was completely focused on monetisation it would be doing well over a $1bn this year,” he said
Microsoft also hopes to use Yahoo to divert sales from Google, which generates more than $20 billion a year from ads.
Both from the articles you just linked to. Bit of a difference, no?
-
• #193
the difference is Google, MS and Yahoo are public companys.. When Facebook actually decides to go Public they will be Huge & the revenue can explode.
as i said if you look at innovation Facebook and the fasting growing and Dominating in their market & its not even a mature company like the others. -

Just goes to show that referencing articles is not the same as reading and understanding them.
