You want to put it inside some kind of mesh bag or pillow case or something, so the straps and material don't get damaged by the washing machine drum, then depending on how manky it is you want to wash it for a fairly long period on a cool temperature, at least thats how i've washed my bags in the past and its never done them any harm.
