ha. glad that there is another smog fan. the new BC album is quite disappointing. there doesn't seem to be that rawness that he had before he went self-titled. do you like it?

Where's yer brackets? :D
Yeah, sort of agree. The last two I thought were quite weak, each redeemed by one beautiful song. The last one I truly loved was A River Ain't Too Much To Love. But yeah, the early stuff is probably the best.

A River Aint Too Much to Love was fantastic. My favourite album is probably Red Apple Falls. And I just listened to River Guard which is a staggering song. When he's good, he's amazing.
What else are you listening to at the moment?

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - 'Tender Pray'
*Oh my, oh my, what a wretched life
I was born on the day that my poor mother died
I was cut from her belly with a stanley knife
My daddy did a jig with the drunk midwifeWho's that yonder all in flames?
Dragging behind him a sack of chains
Who's that yonder all in flames?
Up jumped the Devil and he staked his claim on me* -

River Guard's amazing, yeah. I just made someone unfamiliar with his stuff a 'best of Bill Callahan /(Smog)' compilation, and most of them were either from RAF, Dongs of Sevotion or Knock Knock.
New? Sunset Rubdown, Okkervil River...um... I mainly listen to older stuff though.

sounds like we've got pretty similar music tastes. been on a bit of a cello kick at the moment, so listening to Zoe Keating and Julia Kent, which i'm really enjoying.

Where do you stand on Joanna Newsom?

Where do you stand on Joanna Newsom?
ooh: tricky. i thought Ys was a brilliant album. but she unfortunately has one of those voices that i need to be really in the mood for. perhaps the instrumentation of Ys overshadowed her Lisa Simpson vocals. and i blame her for turning (Smog) into Bill Callahan. ;)

Bout the same as me, then. Ys is undeniably genius, yet I find it hard to love her.
