Southwark Council have just put out a 'Supplementary Planning Document for Dulwich' for consultation. SPDs are taken into account when deciding on planning applications so are pretty important in planning terms (I'm a town planner myself by the way). You can read the docs here:
...and you can comment on them until 11th Sept (you can do this easily online - there is a link from the page above). The key bits for HHV are as follows:
First, the top 5 priorities for Dulwich include:
"5. Increased provision/facilities for young people."
It would be worth commenting and directly linking this priority to the long-term retention of the track. More specifically, the SPD identifies the track as a development site and says:
"Proposals for this site could include a health or leisure facility with ancillary offices and hospitality uses. The existing Velodrome should be retained and proposals could be for high quality developments that are of exceptional design and would allow for refurbishment of the track and BMX track. Proposals should not have a negative impact on the residential amenity of the existing surrounding properties."
DEVELOPMENT AIMS
Redevelop the site as a sports / leisure facility
Retain and refurbish the existing velodrome track and turf
Refurbish stands
Opportunity to redevelop the existing building as a new 2 to 3 storey sports / leisure facility of exceptional design quality with ancillary offices and hospitality use
Removal of the demountable buildings to the north of the site off ers the opportunity to replace with new buildings of exceptional design quality providing additional leisure facilities
Retain existing vehicular access to the site with an opportunity to provide opprtunities for carparking
Refurbish adjacent BMX track
So... it's a small contribution to saving the track in light of all the other issues it faces, but well worth spending a few minutes contributing to the consultation by commenting on all this...
