  • Just saw this:

    http://www.pagegangster.com/p/hhbSM/

Anyone heard / know about it?

  • Not my type of thing but nice to look at none the less.

  • Its obviously a well-polished student design project.

  • Is it your design pman? i like the pedal concept, what materials would it be produced in?

  • It's not my design, but yes I thought the pedal idea was great too.

There isn't much information on the site about it, but I think it's a step in the right direction.

Our bikes cost hundreds of pounds, but the technology level hasn't changed much for a long time.

The having weighted pedals that are always the right way are a good idea, but the rest is a bit OTT.

The tech level hasn't changed much because the "current tech" level is good enough for 99% of everyone out there. "Good enough and cheaper" will always win over "Perfect and More expensive".

Unless the LED indicators are really bright I wouldn't trust a driver to see that compared to my big hairy arm pointing outwards with me trying to stare into the driver's soul.

What I do like is that he didn't try to reinvent the bike as they usually do.

  • ^ Agreed.

  • What? Weighted pedals that are always the right way round? Why are you adding weight to a bike? It makes no sense when all you have to do is learn how to flip the fucking pedals properly...

And the coming/going thing is silly, it looks virtually the same both ways...

That's just a fixed gear bike with some lights/indicators built in...

The center of weight is below so it is always the right way up ... they aren't weighted per se ... it just an expression.

  • 'lightweight straps and a low hung counter weight'

looks like added weight to me!

I'll bet a hundred pounds that it doesn't make any impact on anything.

Well the guy is a bit of bellend if he has designed it like that.

You would just change the cage shape to make sure the center of weight is slightly below the axel.

If done properly i.e. taking into accound the moment of inertia of the pedal etc. it would work properly...

But this is the problem with design guys they never think about the engineering practicalities of what they design.

  • designerist.

  • Interesting twist grip brake - seen this used on custom chops before, but can be a liability when you hit a bump

I dunno about that, it only take says a couple weeks to a month before you can easily flip the pedal and put your feet in it without looking, I think it's a little OTT for that pedal.

however, on the plus side is that the first timer will able to use it instead of ditching it after a week worth of trying to flip the pedal and put their feet in it.

  • now that is a horribly shit website.

I am quite aware it isn't hard to learn my bike which was a racer had the single sided pedals that were always upside down.... but it is nice to not have to use them full stop.
