Broken SRAM omnium crank

  • Just wanted to see if anyone had come across the same problem..

I was riding with a couple of guys on satuday and the non drive crank came off. Really, it just fell off. Leaving me brakeless and one legged. I'd assumed that it had unscrewed itself somehow, so found an allen key and went to screw it back in but there was nothing there. The male thread on the crank side is fine, so the female thread on the axle has been stripped.

I did fall off on this side, but not from any speed, so to be honest i think that's what's done it. All just seems too fragile to me.

Time to get on the phone!

  • This thread is useless without photos.

  • i read somewhere about someone finding play in the cranks when first installing them. after adding a spacer the problem went away. sounds like an installation problem not the product.

  • 9 times out of 10 plus a bit more is installation failure.

  • Is that 9.3?

  • Maybe even more..

  • 9.6?

  • Maybe.. scientists are still debating it.. something about a cat, lead box, radiation and observation..

  • Funny you should say that, my cats litter box is made of lead.
