It is not in question that the San Andreas is showing its age, and that over any mix of terrain there is a modern bike which will kick its ass, but to slag it off by comparison with modern bikes is out of place on a thread which reveres vintage machinery far more than is proper. The 12 year olds who dominate internet fora probably don't remember where mountain bikes were 20 years ago, but at launch the San Andreas was as radical in MTB terms as the contemporaneous Lotus was on the track.
