i'd planned to do this one - [ame]http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/London-to-Brighton[/ame
it does go up ditchling but its really not that bad a climb and the run down into brighton from the top is well worth it. we could always bail and go around though.i'm in se14 so i guess we should meet somewhere south along the route.

@Stinging Broom - are you based in bromley? I was going to suggest to polowannabe that we meet at london bridge station. maybe you want to come up? - or possibly ride west to croydon and meet us there?
@polowannabe - how does meeting at london bridge station work for you?@hovis brown - i'm bailing on the st margerets ride, promised a mate i'd hang with her that day. you want to ride to brighton sat?

sorry you can't make the st. maragarets. mind you, i'm not sure i can do it yet either. i'd love to go to brighton on saturday, but have a bbq that afternoon. so i'm out. but as you're heading down nearly every weekend, perhaps next week?

I know bits of the route, and the bits I know are fairly flat, but it still seems to go up Devil's Dyke (which I haven't been up, but it's still rumoured to be a bit of a climb).
My favourite route to Brighton is the L2B Veteran Car Run route. That really is flat--it has to be, for 100+-year-old cars--, and only has two hills in it. It gets into Brighton via Clayton Hill, which is just north of Pyecombe on the map you linked to. It's not a very big hill at all. I can't remember where the other one was, much as I can't remember too much of the route, as it was all signposted, but quite a bit of it was on fairly major roads, including the lovely A23 for the final run into Brighton.

Cheers Oliver, I think the Devils Dyke is optional on that route, maybe I can talk my mates out of it :)

i like this idea of routes that avoid ditchling. turned around and rode back to london on saturday but which was great but my right achilles is a bit fucked now. pretty sure this is from stomping it up that hill.
may file riding ditchling fixed under just_because_can_doesnt_mean_should. -
