  • I currently ride strapless plastic clips, which I like; less cumbersome than clips + straps and pretty efficient, but they are quite ugly and I fancy something different for my new bike.
    What are Power Grips like?
Do other companies make anything similar? The big 'Power Grip' logo is quite nasty.
    and
Can I get them in garish colours?

    Ta very much.

  • fit them upside down = no logo

theres a DIY powergrip on some japanese site.

  • I've got some powergrips with a purple and yellow rainforest design.. they made them in the 80s and 90s, garish colours a-go-go

  • Yeah, I think I might give PGs a go. Been using MKS clips (steel) with Christophe straps, but they feel pretty insubstantial... so, although I've heard mixed opinions about the PGs, not least on here, they might be worth a try

  • I'm going to get one, it look subtle enough and seemed easy to just slip in/off.

  • fit them upside down = no logo.

I used to run my PowerGrips™ upside down so they were plain black.

    (self-racist)

  • BlackPower-grips? Any good?

  • I believe the Nation of Islam have run clipless from 1992 onwards.

  • I'm curious to give these a go as well actually. my home made double straps are basically just gaffer-tape now, They hold my feet in place because they're sticky more than anything else. Will they work ok with MKS sylvans or are they better with big fat pedals or whut?

  • BlackPower-grips? Any good?

Yeah, they take a week to get used to, but are excellent.

  • there good but u should do a bit of diy on them on the clamp i managed to rip them out of the clamp and it f!!king hurt

  • I've used them, they're great for a pub bike, but nowhere near as good as SPDs.

  • What are they like compared to toe clips?

  • What are they like compared to toe clips?
About the same, but there is a different method of getting into / out of them - i.e. takes a bit of practice.

  • To resurrect this thread rather than start a new one,

Would it be wrong to sully my lovely Suntour Superbe Pro track pedals with these, and indeed would they go on fine?

I was at Brick Lane Polo and want to have a go, but have no clips yet. I have never got on with clips and straps.

  • How are they for skidding, backwards circles etc?

  • i home made some once from a plastic strap and the snapped while i was cranking up a hill. It fucking hurt! if you are going to make them make sure the material is good. but i think they're fairly cheap to buy, when you think about the cost of clips and double straps which will work just as well

  • NO. they twisted your feet at a slight angle which ended up causing pain (at least they did for me), especially on longer rides and harder skids. They tend to fail (slip out) more often then a steel clip (i have broken a few aluminum clips as well though, and now stay away from those, even if they are annodized in pretty colours),however this may just be human error on my part. However, I did run them for a while, and while i thought i liked them at first, i realized how uncomfortable they were once i wentback to clips.

  • +1 not really too good for long rides because they create pressure on the ligaments at the side of your knee, having said that i have been running them on brakeless bikes for over a year, never failed, so easy to get in and out of but still feel proper secure. They don't work with all pedals. The wider MKS custom Nuevo's seem to be the best because the cages are bolted onto the pedal to make them replaceable. the smaller MKS pedals don't work without modification. now i use shimano DX BMX pedals with powergrips on one bike and this is the best street pedal setup i have ever run, plus they don't snap like toe clips if you hit them on something

  • I have some on the beater, and i think they are fine for casual riding around town, butwould always go clipless for proper ridingg

It makes a big differance what pedal they are on - if as radicalrik says you combine them with a DX or similar then they give you a serious amount of grip, easily comparable to Clips, as long as they are adjusted properly - if you fit them to a less grippy pedal you can realy feel the differance

  • Haters.

I love my (archie's grobag version of) powerstraps. They're perfect for polo and general arsing about. Have done a few 50 mile days with no problems either.

  • Morning all,
Sorry to posts on an old thread, but I was looking for Archie's powerstraps and couldn't find anything on the website. Any pointers?
    Cheers.
