  • Nothing too serious, just a bit of a fucked shoulder and wrist.

If anyone was cycling behind me and saw a tall chap in a blue cap riding a Charge Plug suddenly become airborne for no apparent reason, I'd love to know what the fuck happened. One minute cruising along, next in the air, swiftly followed by hitting the road. There is a quite big depression in the road with a steeply ramped exit, but looks really smooth. I can only guess it was that. Bikes fine, and I don't think I've done owt too damaging. Going to take the day off with a big ice pack and some pain killers.

  • Yeow - get well soon :-)

  • ouch. heal up soon!

  • Ouch! where abouts was it - I think I see you sometimes on my route - you can't miss me - black bike red spok.
    Heal up soon fella.

  • Ow. Hope you heal quickly.

  • Gah, that sucks. This happened to a friend coming off Old St roundabout to the west - bent forks, totally fucked face/hands/knees etc, the only thing we could see was a drain cover with about 1cm depression which I regularly ride over without thinking about.

Heh, just noticed Hovis Brown's avatar...

  • Clapham Road? Near the Oval? Was it not a strong whaff of poppers coming out of Fire's air con system?

Used to blitz my lungs from Stockwell right through until Embankment so no doubt you could have hit the happy cloud.. just a thought

  • ouch! that's got to smart! heal up soon.

  • sounds like a divot, fk off big one that pinged you in the air. lucky escape man
    heal quick

  • Thanks everyone.

Clefty, it was just approaching the pedestrian crossing by the parade of shops on the left and the old children's hospital on the right, just before Oval station, from the south. I'm just glad there was no traffic so I didn't get run over. I'll keep an eye out for you and say 'Hi' next time we pass.

Chug_it - I certainly felt momentarily floaty, and I now have a headache so your popper theory might be the answer.

  • I know exactly where you mean, there is a hidden dip in the road there, which became a hole, then was filled in, but is now a big dip again - if you hit it at speed, it can throw you off balance. I wonder if that was it, were you on the left of the road but not in the gutter - more edge of the bus lane width?

  • Clefty, that sounds like the one. There was no traffic about and I was over taking another cyclist at the time, so was out much wider than usual, didn't see the dip at all. Shoulder was still hurting like hell so I popped into St Thomases A&E this afternoon. Sprained wrist, strained acromio clavicular joint. Thankfully nothing broken. Might go and get a photo of the road and send it with photo of my shoulder to Lambeth's road maintenance department, see if they'll fix it.

  • ouch!! Simply report it on the TfL website when you know where it is.

  • good thing is your alright, and no damage was sustained to your beard in the process. thats the important thing :P
