  • Mine does that. I just thought it was cos my left leg is stronger than my right and I balance to the right.

No seriously though. My bike has always done that and I know for a fact there is nothing wrong with it so I just put it down to a quirk of some sort

  • there not random, they are perpendicular from the fork crown and they show that both the 'legs' are bent to the right. . .

  • ^^^^^ Hahahahahahaha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. HA! Sorry

We need a side on picture please.

    wtf

  • They're supposed to do that you nutjob (read: really nice guy). 'Bent' forks usually bend when you hit something head on, like a wall. That means they will both be bent 'backwards', not 'outwards' like you suggest.

  • well i didnt crash frontways you twat (read: really nice guy) i slid side ways and then i unclip and it bounce on its side. . . im not that retarded ffs. . . why are they meant 'to be like that'

  • They're American forks. The design means that should you fall asleep whilst riding, you'll drift into the kerb rather than oncoming traffic. British forks go the opposite way.

Don't ride with your forks in the UK, particularly if you're narcoleptic.

  • Radius, bending backwards from a head-on collision isn't the only way forks can bend.

They are made of steel, they will bend whichever way you push them.

rocker, if you think they are bent sideways, it could be from landing crooked, for example I've seen a video of someone doing a 180 bunnyhop on a track bike and bending the forks sideways.

Could be anything like that, maybe just a dodgy landing off a curb, or a sideways collision with a car. You will never know.

If I were you I wouldn't worry, just keep riding your bike (with hands) and if it really starts to piss you off, either get new forks or go about straightening them somehow.

So from what I understand its a case of a fail rider, not a fail bike?
You never mentioned anything about crashing on said bike in your original post.

well, i mean fail bike cause its just been problem after problem, and no it wasnt fail rider, it was fail tyre . . .

Ok thanks for the best advice so far :) i think il carry on riding it until i get a new frame

  • The colour of the forks confirmed my worst suspicions - the bike's not gay - it's Conservative.

Much worse. Next thing you know your Council Tax will be super low but they'll be closing your local swimming pool and you'll run out of books to read at your local library.

Sorry to hear that mate but you could always pick up some cheap forks somewhere if it annoys you too much.

Your bike is gay. Just accept it. You can't force a gay bike to go straight.

  • Damage to one of the dropouts could also cause the bike to no longer follow a straight path. Or a misaligned rear wheel could also cause that effect.

    It would be slight though.

Oh god, its the same as me! xD dont hurt a poor little conservative, i was raised in the country you know, thats what wer all loike 'ere

  • @GA2G its like proper immediate, i cant let go for one second or it get fucked

  • to straighten steel forks - get the very ends (just above the dropouts) in a good vice that's well mounted (pad the vice unless you want scratches) so they are vertical - steerer at the top. now insert a long bar (peice of scaffold) betwen the blades just under the crown (again pad with some cloth where it touches the forks).
now you can use the bar to get the twist out - by going slowly and carefully and checking the results - often by eye you won't be sure but if you can find 2 long straight edges butt one up against the crown and one through the dropouts andsee if they're aligned - the longer the straight edges the more acurately you can see the alignment as any errors will be magnified by the leght of the edges.

eg. get a very long threaded rod in the droputs and butt a long straight ruler against the crown (or just below the crown on the blades if the crown is bulbous in the middle) look down along the steerer to check if these two straight edges are parallel

  • headset too tight?

  • ah only just looked at pics - they're not twisted they are skewed?

just try to assess where the bend is - on which blade, and clamp the blade just below the bend and pull on the steerer to bend the metal.
it's best to get them both symetrical with as little bending as possible (even if both blades seem bent you can make them symetrical by bending back the one that seems most deforemd). even if the spacing is not right do as little bending as possible- if they come out too thin just splay and pop the wheel in - if they're too wide just pop the wheel in and clamp the nuts down to pull the blades in - this won't make them the right spacing when you take the wheel back out again but it doesn't matter - you'll have pushed them beyond their elastic limit as little as possible and got them in balance..
remember you're not trying to get them exactly as they were - but just to get them symetrical - if they're in balance you'll be good
