Moulton wheel? Help...

Posted on
  • Picked up a battered Moulton but it's in desperate need of a new front wheel... 14 inch please.

Ideally a Sturmey Archer, not fussed about condition and long as it's roundish.

If not, does anybody know a good source for little wheels?

  • Phone Velorution on Monday; I work there, we sell Moultons, I'll see what I can do for you. 0207 637 4004

  • Hi, great news... who shall I ask for?

It's a beaten old bike it's going on, so not after anything too swish/expensive... thanks for offer, I hope you can help!

    Regards

  • Here's a hint, build it up, then e-bay it on japanese ebay.

  • i usually answer the phone but if not ask for will; or call my mobile, it's in the "private" phone thread

  • By sturmey archer front wheel, do you mean you want a dynohub or drum brake?

  • Expert advice here:

Also always Moulton spares on ebay ... i.e. there's currently a 14" Schwalbe tire

  • Hi, nope not after a dynohub or drum brake, just a basic wheel please. Just mentioned Sturmey as the current rim is Sturmey stamped.

Yep I'm keeping my eyes on ebay... thanks all.

  • don't have any in stock Danny; would have to order.

  • Regular Moultons are 16 inch. 14 is for the mini and midi.

I'm not sure if the 14 inch rims have been available for years. Second hand is all you can get as far as I know. fronts seem to be more common than rears. The rear of my girlfriend's is all rusted to hell.

(Actually, if you give up on finding a front, and the rear is in good nick, I might take it off your hands for a reasonable price)

I think is possible to put certain 16s on there if you are careful with sizes and tyres. Google for a japanese site showing a Moulton Midi restoration.

Here's the site. defeats google translate

  • I'll have a look in the shop, we have some moulten enthusiasts working at bc, never know what random stuff they have in their private reserves

  • Many thanks...
