They're quite lovely from a purely technical perspective. Just like the old mono-planar campag calipers....delicious but not immensely effective.
The monoplanars are at least as good as any contemporaneous single pivot caliper, and the Deltas are not as bad as people make out, they're just a bit more finnicky to set up than a simple, cheap and light modern dual pivot. There are still people messing with non-linear linkages on brakes, like eebrakes, and even the Specialized Transition is of the same order of design
