Possibly the best record shop in the world
Don't blame me if you spend a fortune.
Fishermans Wharf is crappy now, don't go there.
Valencia Street is the place for fixed gear bike spotting and good book shops. And here has hipster bikes and good beer http://beerbybart.com/why/zeitgeist/

+1 for both of those.
Hayes Valley also a good place for shopping / lounging. If you like sneaks check out Huf - Keith Hufnagel's shop.
Also FTC and DLX if you skate.

Needs gears and don't get your front wheel stuck in a cablecar track.

We went there:
Some people say it's a tourist trap, but I thought it was very yummie and decent prices!
+1 on Amoeba records ... I didn't walk in, but walked past, and it was big like a TESCO

The Mission - A bar that i have forgotten the name of, between van ness and mission around 15th street, lots of bikes. a bike rack inside infact. good.

Ride a Segway
Hire a bike and ride over the bridge... ride up to the top of the Marin headlands to admire the views, and drop back down to Sausalito for lunch/lager then get the ferry back
Go on the rocket boat
The night tour for Alcatraz is supposed to be alright but you'll need to book up in advance

Oh yeah and Marin is pronounced Ma-RIN not MA-rin like we always used to think the mountain bikes are called.

Been a few times and it's just magic. Avoid Market St on weekend evenings, pretty sketchy on a board as all the suits fuck off and randoms take over. As for fuel, Taqueria Cancun on Mission (they've got a few across the city) does huge, hunger-destroying fuck-off burritos with nice salsa cheap cheap, and there's a free campsite if you get across the Golden Gate Bridge in the Marin Headlands (maybe http://www.nps.gov/goga/marin-headlands.htm but haven't checked if it's still there), nae toilets but plenty raccoons to fuck with your food if you don't keep it in the tent. What's more, you can wake up to the sound of ships in the bay, and see the Golden Gate looming out of the fog.
Like a few others said, Sausalito is accessible and above all quite rad. Ditto DLX, where you might meet Frankie Gerwer if you're lucky.
You'd kick yourself for not bringing either board or bike, although you could get a cheap set-up at DLX or Skates on Haight if you can bear to enter tie-dye nostalgia land.

Agreed. Hands down. I discovered this on my last day there. Best burritos ever.
The Mission - A bar that i have forgotten the name of, between van ness and mission around 15th street, lots of bikes. a bike rack inside infact. good.
Zeitgeist. When I was over there last I stayed with bartenders from that place, was an enjoyably drunk time. Great veggieburgers too.

El Buen Sabor is Awesome. i was staying with some friends on 18th between Valencia and Guerrero and that was my local breakfast lunch and dinner spot. Chorizo is impeccable there. I have turned into a burrito snob ever since. Another place i really liked was up near the 24th street and mission bart - called El Farolito - they have really good Carnitas and i hear that La Taqueria is meant to be amazing but i never went. For another trip me thinks.
Zeitgeist wasn't the bar i was thinking of - i think thats actually at the bottom of Valencia or Mission around 10th or 11th? A couple of my friends work there - good beer garden!
This place is north of 16th and mission bart stop so i think i got my cross streets mixed up - it must be more like 20th or 21st. anyway they have a whisky night which = a double of whisky and a PBR for $5. The fish tacos are MAD GOOD there too. Actually - just googled it - Its called benders - http://www.bendersbar.com/
Other good food spots.
Tartine - 18th and Guerrero - best bakery you will ever go to. no doubt. seriously good shit.
Love and Haight - Lower Haight street - good sandwhiches - loads of vegan options and a good cooler with beers and soft drinks in.
Herbivore in Berkley and on Valencia in the mission is great too. Good veg / vegan and same goes for Greens Restaurant....

Same here. You woudln't happen to know Welsh Rae or Gay Jeff would you? Both Zeitgeist workers, live on 18th between Valencia and Guerro. That would be weird.
Tips? Go. It's good.
+1 for Mission burritos.
+1 for Alcatraz: yes it's touristy but it's also v. interesting and worth the money
-1 for Fisherman's Wharf. Awful.
