I'm competing in my first full Triathalon and want some advice about swimsuits.
Looking at the TYR Sayonara Shortjohn Swimskin Suit,
But what would this be like to use for the run and cycle leg?
Would it be too restictive?
If i need to transition out of it, I might as well go for a full wetsuitWould a full wetsuit with its added buoyancy actualy be faster anway?

You normally only use those when the water is to warm to wear a wetsuit.
they are only made for swimming. I'd recommend to buy/hire a wetsuit and wear a triathlon suit underneath.
Once you come out of the water you take off the wetsuit and do the rest of the race in just the trisuit.... -

not interested in warmth, as i don't feel the cold.
What I need is somthing that will improve my swimming and if I don't need to waste time in transtion all the better.

wetsuit is faster but there is a temperature limit for them (I think it is 23 C) that is what they invented those swimskin suits for...
But I think the water usually doesn't get to warm in England (correct me if I'm wrong).... -

i may be wrong but i believe that it is compulsory to wear a full swimming wetsuit for triathlons, those suits are for when organisers deem it too hot to be safe to swim in a full wetsuit. check the rules for the triathlon you are doing though.
also if that is made of wetsuit material there is no way you want to be wearing it for the swim and bike legs as you would dehydrate so quickly it would be unreal.
i would buy one if you think you might be doing any more triathlons but you can rent them as well.

• #33
you are wrong, unless the temperature is below 14 degrees or somthing.
-
• #34
If the water is below 14, the organisers** make** you wear a full wetsuit. Above that its usually up to you. Bit of controversy around those swim suits but i think they're legal most races.
I'm doing London in a full wetsuit, with a trisuit underneath for the bike/run. sexy-Lycra-one-piece ftw!

ive decided to go for a wetsuit just for buoyancy - What do you guys recon will be faster in the water, a shorty websuit, or a full wetsuit jacket?
The Jacket will mean a quicker transistion, but im worried it will cause my legs to drag in the water.

So who is doing it now? and what's your start time?
I'll do the Westminster route on Sunday morning (hell yeah, from city airport to Westminster and back, all on closed roads!).
the only down site, it's a 6.30 am start :( -
• #37
Tommy, your legs will be a float on the water in a full wet suit and depending on the temperature of the water you may loose alot of heat/energy in a half wetsuit.

up and running in north sheen were doing an half price sale as they are restocking the whole store, so i couldn't say no to a bargin full orca 3.8 wetsuit
good luck to anyone taking part this year, your gonna need it now.

Was meant to be doing the running but I'm back on the cycling now. I am totally unprepared and I think the bike I'm intending to use might be illegal. Hurrah!

That would be Awesome.
I was going to take the Denti but I might go with the Pinarello instead before I sell it. I think there are weird rules about untaped bars so it might be less risky (unless anyone here can clarify the rules... I haven't seen the handbook and the website is useless)

I think / hope / am fairly certain that untaped bars are ok. It's unplugged bars that'll get you, ahem, barred.
You doing it tomorrow? I am.
The technical rules are in a pdf here (section 11): http://www.britishtriathlon.org/events/page.php?article=&category=/events/&folder=rules/

Cool, thanks. Can't see anything about tape in there so maybe I will go with the Denti...
Doing it tomorrow but I'm doing the Team Relay (the Olympic one) rather than the whole thing.

Me too, me too. I think our start time is 11.30. I will be on a ss black Bob Jackson with red tires if you fancy saying hi. I get the feeling that the day might involve quite alot of standing around, although I've never done one before so who knows.
-
• #45
Heh, I didn't even know there was a start time, I thought we just went when the first team member had finished.
I am very unprepared and will probably be hungover... I am going to be sloooooooooooooow
-
• #46
Haha; you're right - there isn't a start time for us - we just go when a wet person covered in shit from the thames splutters up to us and hands us a band, but the start times for the swimmers are staggered, and mine is starting at 11.30.
-
• #47
ohhh I see.
I should probably find out when mine is then.
I bet I get lost on the course or something.
-
• #48
I intend to adopt the age-old tactic of following everyone else; this will only become a problem when I inevitably take the lead.
-
• #49
Do you know if it's completely flat?
-
• #50
Pretty flat - out to Billingsgate and back into Westminster sort of thing - inclines will be for underpasses
I'm in NZ so out!
and for the one in a week I'm in Kiev.
but I'll be back from NZ in the best shape of my life so should still be on course.
