For reference, I picked up a Diatech Goldfinger from Condor yesterday. I thought I'd have to put it on the bar where it narrows, rather than at the clamp, but it actually fits on the bulge.
Just have to get a BMX brake cable now, as the ferules are different.

Just a quick one re levers and catilever brakes...I already have a decent cantilever for my front brake but am aware that not all levers are suitable with all brakes...so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a good lever that would be suitable for drops running down to a cantilever...i also like the idea of having a hood/false hood combo...

Dia compe and cane creek both do drop levers designed to work with canti brakes or discs.
If you want cross top levers, the Pauls components cross lever has 2 pivot positions to work with either road brakes or cantis/discs. -

Normal drop levers work with canit brakes.
V-brake type cantis require long pull lever. tektro.

How well they work though is dependant on whether they're wide stance touring or cyclocross style cantis...or more upright, taller cantis. The newer style low profile cantis feel spongy with regular drop levers.

That's done to the increase mechanical advantage of road leavers over mtb standard pull levers.

i think im gonna go for one of these...as they sound like they should fit my midget hands nicely (well they are more pixie hands - svelte - not fat and knobbly like those of a midget)...
http://www.velosolo.co.uk/tektro100.htmlanyhoo does anyone know if i can get a false hood for these on the other side or should i just get a pair and cut the un-used side down??

If I may interject... I have a pair of Cane Creek Crosstops for 31.8mm oversize bars to sell. Right one used for literally a few rides. The left will work fine flipped on the right but not fit your hand perfectly. £12 posted each or £20 the pair and I'll throw in a barely used teflon cable with the first sale. PM if interested.

- newbie alert * newbie alert * so please bear with me...
no doubt this has come up before, probably a few times, but i can't find the damn thread and this is relevant-ish....
so i've got an old, converted SS pug. sweet thing, she is. still has the original dropdowns, which i like, but i would like to piss the original brake levers off and replace them with one 2-finger brake lever (to be honest, for aesthetics, simplicity, plus i only ever use one brake)...so bearing in mind it's SS and i only want one brake; do i keep the front or back brake? what is best practice?

keep both front and back, fixed wheel bicycle technically have two brakes, the back wheel and the front brakes.
if you really really insist on looking like a fixie skidder by using only one brake, a back brake may be idea if you're not exactly experience when it come to using brake.
netherless I still insist on riding singlespeed with two brakes, it's safer.

I bought it in white and the finsih on the lever is shite. Be warned.
Hey all, so the finish on the white lever is no good.. but what about the performance of it? Adelaide has a pretty nice new BMX shop which stocks a few levers with the eclat being one of them. another is the 1-2 finger odsessy one which is pictured. Anyone have a preference? Cheers!

cheers edscoble! safe is good. i guess i just wanna look COOL. my rear brake is always very responsive and can't remember a time when i've needed to use both my front and back at the same time.

there are time for instance when you're cornering in wet condition where you'd be worried about using the front brake in case it might slip and cause an accident.
while it's possible to able to corner heavily in the wet with a front brakes, it's still be a tad safer to have a rear brake as well.
after all it's about enjoying the ride, not the bike.
