  • clintsmoker i need to take another look at sam's route in the light of day (and bmmf's comment) but i can certainly feel a pull towards it. also, tim, we should have a quick chat about scarlett's pm. i know it is something you have been leaning towards for a while. like, spell out, make explicit, the common sense stuff we expect from the riders in dark of the night.

actually, thinking back to yesterday, and having missed the ride two weeks ago, i realised that the darkness is an important part of the parcel.

  • Oooooh, clandestine.

Actually, 'Clandestine' sounds like another one of jonny's homespun frame marques - "yeah, I was gonna ride out on the Copacetic, but it's a bit unforgiving on Kentish lanes, so I thought I'd use the Clandestine for a change."

  • funny you should say that scarlett. gave the Copacetic a rest today and took my new 56cm Fiasco out for commute and extra spin today. she handles beautifully.

  • i'll be riding the 'fiasco' in kent

  • might be on the small side tim but you are always welcome to borrow my lo-pro Darango

  • great minds think alike ;)

  • What about the TT set-up Lopigi or the middlebrow Audax/BMX Rastupax?

  • ^^^ I know you're just making these names up, jonny. Keep 'em coming. ;)

  • i would oliver but i just recently sold my old skool Relentla to a fellow forumenger ;)

  • Is clintsmoker still riding his Tybunaja?

  • 31.5 Ok? Could amend if necessary.

    http://www.bikemap.net/route/260779

Takes in Star Hill and Bayleys Hill (Ide Hill's infamous cousin).

If you ran it in reverse it would be fucking hard, although I would change the route slightly to avoid a dodgy right turn while climbing. It would then include the ascents of Ide Hill Road and Sundridge Hill (definitely a leg breaker).

There's a train to Otford from Victoria plus also one from Cannon Street that arrive within 5 minutes of each other at approx 19:50. Two hours riding time gives trains every 20 mins or so with the last being shortly after 23:00.

This is a great route Sam, nice one. Certainly one to add a tooth or two to the rear.

  • thanks for the company everyone, I had a good time tuesday night!

    @cynthia thanks!

  • All over Sam's new route.

    thumbs up

  • Don't know whether to ride the new Tixed™, or bring the Schwa out of storage...

  • Tim did tell me to add 2 or 3 mummas. Wasn't sure if he meant ascents or descents though...

The worst of the Sundridge Hill descent is over in about 300yds anyway. As for descending Ide Hill, it's lovely and open with no side roads so isn't at all 'dangerous'. Perfectly do-able on fixed with a bit of brake 'feathering'. Personally, I'll be aiming to crack the 50mph barrier with gears.

Could do a recce with someone if they want, I know the roads anyway ;0) No time off in the week though Tim, apart from a week on Monday, but could ony do the afternoon. Not much use though, as the next TNRC ride would be the following night anyway. Could maybe do this Sunday morning, but I'll have a raging hangover as I'm out the night before on a stag do.

  • And I'm sure Scarlett knows a couple of areas on this route.

Which reminds me, if anyone wanted it toughened right up, I could take us up Yorks.

  • ^No thanks^

  • Just remembered, I can't do Sunday morning. Soz.

Can knock up a cheat sheet if anyone is interested.

  • ^turn left where you can hear the roundabout, long straight then a sharp right when you can smell the hops ;)

seriously, good work sam, looking forward to this route. might have to bring the polo bike though!

  • That's the one.

  • I might ride this route on Sunday morning on the Ti wonder bike.

  • Actually Jonny, there is indeed a 'hear motorway, turn right' junction on this route!

  • It's becoming your trademark Sam. I expect Ed and LdnGrrl to be suing your ass any day.

  • @ sam everyone seems really excited by the prospect of this ride including me . i'm going to head out and recce it this weekend maybe if anyone fancys it let me know.

    Ha!

Hopefully this time I won't have to go out armed with a pair of hedge clippers.

I've knocked up a sheet, if anyone wants it, PM me and I'll fire it over.
