In common with the Easton arrow above, the key to effectiveness is converting the propelling force into the highest possible kinetic energy, keeping as much as possible of that down range by efficient ballistic design, and then delivering it effectively by using the highest possible sectional density. The use of an epoxy/carbon composite for the sabot in A2 and later versions reduces sabot weight, making the penetrator weight a higher proportion of the total projectile weight and therefore increasing the proportion of the propellant energy which heads off towards the bad guys. Some bleeding heart liberals don't like the use of depleted Uranium for the penetrator, but usually for the wrong reasons
