  • I want to purchase a domain name, I've used Godaddy before and they were ok, before I push the button does anyone have any recomendations?

I'd like email to be included, plus a small amount of web space just in case I want to put anything up.

  • i use godaddy too
i hate the website desugn but they are cheap

  • I've been very impressed with - http://www.express-hosting.co.uk/

They do a starter package for pretty cheap, and the tech support has been awesome.

  • Thanks for the advice chaps.

Just been playing with whois and every version of my username is bloody registered!

Mostly by speculators it would seem.

    Meh.

  • For my hosting purposes I use (mt) Media Temple. Really solid, great service really recommend it!

    mediatemple.net

  • i use 1and1, but them i'm old fashioned

  • How has the world changed in the past few years ?
I'd like to register a Domain or two and look to setup a forum.
I'm sure there are many traps I could fall into, and would love some good advice from those on here with some insight.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Gandi are great. They obscure your whatis and are generally awesome.
    Avoid GoDaddy, they're wankers.

  • Bumping instead of starting a new thread...

I have bought a domain (from GoDaddy) and I have started a small/simple website to showcase my work through Wix.

I've connected the 2 things together so now when you type in 'thevandalmetalworks.com' you should end up at my site but the address bar displays the Wix address (https://mrwarner2000.wixsite.com/website).

Anyone know if/how I make it so that it would just have thevandalmetalworks.com in the address bar?

  • Yeah.

I'm getting this screen when I go on the 'Domains' bit of Wix and they have actually sent me an email to say my domain has 'gone live' or whatever but maybe I just need to wait a bit longer and it'll work properly.

  • DNS changes can sometimes take ages to happen, give it 24 hours.

  • And godaddy are still wankers, I recommend namecheap.

  • I have a dot-EU domain that I'll lose the rights too shortly, how complex is it to assign ownership to a member of the family who will be living in an EU country post 31st Dec?

  • Easy. Whoever you registered it with should be able to tell you about ownership changes.

  • Dead thread reawake!

I’m shortly to launch a website (built using Wix). Any suggestions on hosting? I’d like a proper email address associated with the domain and don’t really fancy the price of a Google Workspace account which is what Wix tie you in to. Will need a domain, hosting and mailbox I guess.

  • OVH, easy peasy

  • Ah great. Will check them out - thank you.
