In warm months, you can tell the temperature by listening to a cricket’s chirps. Just count the number of times a single cricket chirps in 15 seconds, add 37 to that number, and you will have the temperature in Fahrenheit degrees. A cricket’s metabolic rate is directly related to the temperature.
For those of us who work in celcius... count how many chirps in 25 seconds then divide by 3 and add 4. Simple :)
