oh this is a good fact, inspired by the carbon guns posted in the carbonlovers thread.
ceramic knife blades are as sharp as steel blades, and supposedly hold their sharpness for longer. but they don't set off metal detectors and can easily get missed on airport x-ray machines. as a result, it's now legally required to put a certain amount of steel into the ceramic.
