In the late 1983 Richard Branson asked little-known New York singer Madonna to record a corporate version of a song demo he had heard featuring his company's name. Uncertain of her future, and happy for the £300 fee (then about US$470), she recorded "I Like Virgin". As a result the writers of the original demo offered her the chance to cut a Niles Rogers-produced version of their song and the rest is history. Meanwhile "I Like Virgin" went on to be used as the ident to several of Virgin's early corporate videos, including a "Walkaround" promo for its record stores and a Health and Safety video, introducing new employees to warehouse hazards around its Stonebridge distribution plant.
