Sometimes it's hard to differentiate between invention (printing press) and discovery (electricity) - it's hard to say whether the wheel was discovered or invented ? - But here are my top 10 greatest inventions (not whether I like 'em or not, but simply their impact on makind).

4 - commerce
5 - television
6 - gun powder
7 - nuclear fission
8 - the internet
9 - the computer
10- the pub

surely 2 & 7 are discoveries rather than inventions. [not going to enter into a discussion on 1]
