I knew before reading this thread either Vai or Satriani would be mentioned. I used to enjoy that sort of thing, Petrucci and Satch ripping every single note out of thier guitars in 0.4 seconds but it gets old too fast. These days, I much prefer the guitar work of Robert Smith, Yawning Man, Sonic Youth, MBV, Slint etc, doesn't have to be sweep picking to be talented :)

All technique, no soul imo. Sit with a metronome and a scales book for a year and anyone could do the same shit.
