Amazing also how the street sellers had an angle grinder "just handy"?
Yeah, I thought that too. In terms of dodginess they were just one notch above the ones who sold my bike. But they did help when they didn't need too, so fair enough.

Awesome stuff and very well handled - add certain of these points to a 'recovery' FAQ...
not to forget TooTallTim has a bike to recover, damn shame it wasn't a 3/3 win.

I mean "DON'T BUY STOLEN" doesn't work for pirate DVDs, so why would it work for bikes?
Technically, pirate dvds aren't stolen, they are just copies, and there is a difference ;)
piracy = copy of a original, original remains intact
theft = removal of the original from the owner, transfer of goods;)

superfuckinawesome win.
the idea of you wrestling someone off a bike over 100m is impressive.
east end olympics anyone?

Tim, post a pic of your bike, let's go for 3/3

You are as wrong as being born a hermaphrodite. The people who would disagree with you most, are those that work in the music and film industries.
Its theft of copyright. But we'll leave it there. -

I don't want to start a whole debate so lets leave it there I agree. I was just nit picking on the technicalities rather than taking into consideration the diminishing profit of the industries (therefore theft) Peace. :]

buying a stolen bike deprives a single individual of their bike, worth several hundred pounds. buying a pirate dvd deprives a multibillion pound corporate industry of a few pence profit.
i don't think it's worth redredging the whole "downloading music is a crime" debate, but let's at least agree that you can argue there's a difference between the two.

Good work guys.
We have people coming into BC all the time asking if we sell second hand bikes, to which I always replay that we don't buy stolen bikes.
When they give me a strange look I tell them that most second hand bikes are stolen, and explain why we don't support that kind of culture. I never send them down Brick Lane for a bike.
-
• #38
Where do BLB get their second hand stock from?
Some of that looks dodgy as funk
-
• #39
Brilliant. Rubbish that you effectively had to do the police's work with bike number 2, but reassuring to hear of some helpful coppers on here for a change. I find it amazing people who've bought stolen bikes react like that, but I guess it's the last thing they want to hear so they're basically going to be in denial.
How long did it take them to grind through the lock? It was a NY 3000 right?

nice ending.
it is upsetting seeing the stolen bicycles at bricklane market. and its clear which ones are stolen and which ones are not............ regardless of what people say.

Great story - well done! I have to say I am impressed by the locks that thieves use - a lesson to us all.

Since they steal bike for a living, I'm not surprise!

Quite - but did they also steal the lock?

it's the only thing they paid for in their entire sordid life.

+1 dude - I think you should wear a cape next time though (full super hero persona)

Lenni - That is just brilliant. Well done.

this story is about 90% legit and generally backed. however, if i just bought a second hand bike (i know it seems obvious to everyone on here but i bet A LOT of people really don't think about this shit being stolen) and you accosted me claiming it was yours then started wrestling me off it, well fuck, yr lucky dude wasn't into fighting.

I actually saw this getting cut free,
I was about to get on my phone and post then girl I was with said the cops had just been there.
there was a guy selling a red fuji track if someone lost one of those Im sure it will be back there next weekend -

Epic win!
Also I think the strategy of identifying a bike and waiting for someone to buy it before reclaiming it is very good. I don't imagine the guys who paid thieves for stolen bikes and then had them very publicly removed from them by their rightful owners will be doing that again. Hopefully they will tell other people about it (altho I'd be inclined to keep it quiet - repeating it back it would be very hard not to make you look like a bit of a cunt, and that ain't a great anecdote).
Better that than taking on a bunch of 16-20 yr old law breakers.
Anyhoo, nice one guys! :D (for Object)

how is this better than confronting the people that actually stole the bike?
Amazing also how the street sellers had an angle grinder "just handy"? Well, better to get rid of the problem and back to selling more stolen bikes eh? You've got to give them that, they're ballsey.
