I have one in front of me which is a Shimano Nexave Megarange. No idea if it is what you are after.
Yours for a can of 1664.

Oh my. Good luck.
You have no idea what your bike is? That would be where to start.

Not a great idea, those things are rubbish.

@ Tel - thanks for that link.
@ !Nhattattack! - its a 1974 Carlton Continental - I think it originaly came with a suntour rear mech, which seems to have a hanger attached.
Why is this one rubbish?
What do you recon would be a good alternative?

AFAIK its just a generic mech hanger for bikes with no brazed on mech hanger. Perhaps if you hunt around you'll be able to get a Campag or Shimano one. I'm not aware of any other type that would fit this type of dropout but then I don't know that much ;)

You will need to try and contact whoever is making carlton, that is your best bet.
The one's that don't bolt on (they use the axle) never hold the mech in the right place so you never have a very good tension adjustment. You could try Suntour for their advice, or ask if anyone has a Carlton frame they are thinking of scrapping so that you can get the mech hanger off it. It may or may not fit. Mech hangers are a nightmare, but it's really hard to get something that works as well as what's supposed to be on there.
Cotic has a weird mech hanger that looks like a raw piece of metal with an axle slot cut in it and a mechanger all in one. We've been using them to convert Steam rollers into three speeds with a cassette (total magic. Trust me).

I'm still sorting through my box(es) of bits. Haven't found them yet, will give you a pm when I do.

Why do I have a feeling he'll be waiting some time?

How dare you? :)

I'm just saying that you seem like the kind of guy who has allot of boxes of things that will probably be useful to someone someday (maybe).

Buy this one ^^^ there is a temendous amount of pish being spoken in this thread. It will work fine if correctly set up. Your dropout has no fittings for the type of replaceable mech hangers fitted to modern bikes so this will do you absolutely fine.

You're so right, and so is Tel.
No problem at all to use this hanger.
There are millions of bikes with this combination. Index and non-indexed shifting systems. It simply works. Better than most fancy bikes with internal cable routing and Dura Ace or Record components. Just make sure that the alignment is checked after assembly to the dropout. -

I'm happy to be wrong.
I see a million cheap bikes set up with something simular coming through my shop where the derailluer has slipped into the wrong place, but maybe that's because the people putting the things together are muppets (although I admit I find it difficult to get it to sit in the right place while I tighten the axle).
********EDIT*********
So I was on my older computed before where I can't look at photos without the whole thing crashing down on me. After looking at your photo everyone else is right and I'm wrong...except that I would still try and get the cotic version.

Thanks everyone for the tips. Bought the ebay one suggested... the wait is killing me, I even tried riding single speed (brakeless with my 1/8-inch chain... not very smart).
@ !Nhattattack! is this what you're talking about?
-

Yeah, that's the one. They are the business. If it fits with your drop outs, i've not actually fit one on a conversion.
-
• #21
Yeah, it looks pretty chunky... I've have a search to see if they available. Guessing they're more than £7

Not too sure, I can't imagine them being more than a tenner. I'll ask at work, I think we have a few kicking about.
Hey,
I need a rear mech hanger as my frame doesnt have a braze on the dropout.
The problem is when I search there are hundreds and I have no idea what type I will need.
So if anyone has one to swap for a couple of beers let me know.
Also if anyone has a link to the right one please also let me know
Thanks.
