Could always just head south. There are loads of good pubs round near my neck of the woods and some great lanes to ride down.

Guys I am not sure if you are aware but a group called 'The Heatens' ride out from the Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath on the first Sunday of the month ( this one! ) The last one which I joined them on was ace... we went out to Warwick and were out for nigh on 4 hours with a break in between.
I shall be there this Sunday too if anyone fancies it.
Dan - Hope you feel better mate so hopefully you too can join in!
Might see a few of you there.
ps. leave at 9am.

aero - i doubt very much that i'm going to be able to make the ride as we're entertaining guests this weekend. they brought bike magazines from japan and a cap to make you jealous.
i'm a bit gutted with the timing as i'm really up for a nice long challenging ride. next time.
barring a massive hangover, i may go for a two-hour blast on monday afternoon/evening though if anyone's interested.
any polo plans anytime soon? (i'm desperate)

Almost two months later, any plans to revive this splendid idea?
I would have thought it might be a plan to stagger successively longer rides, so Stratford, Shrewsbury, Oxford ...
@aeronaught
Heathens? I was told they average 15mph, which is a bit faster than I would like to average for 4 hours straight. How 'ardcore was it? -

i want to do a century ride as soon as i get a coaster-hub wheel built up. anyone interested?
i'm mulling over the idea of trying to ride to london in a day too. i imagine this will be more than 100 miles, so i'll see how that goes first. anyone done this?

i'm up for trying a century. though i think i should do some rides before then to build up my legs e.g.
bham to stratford,
bham to leicester,
london to brighton. -

How about a 3-stage epic:
July 26th
Dep wherever to arrive Leamington 11.30 am ready for the 12 noon bike flash mob
Dep Leamington to arrive at Leics for 4pm for the world bmx finals (soem details here: http://www.global-flat.com/smf/index.php?topic=26303)
Then 7pm ride Leics back to Brum.
I've a vague plan to ride Cov > Leam > Leics > Brum that day to get to a friends birthday bash later on, would be good to have some company for some sections.

For a century you want to be able to do 80 miles for fun, not sure I'm up to that atm.
I think Brum to oxford is about 100 miles, london would be MUCH more.

Thought about doing it on the old A5, not sure I'd fancy 100+ miles of main road riding though

I'm not sure if this is worth posting, but i'm cycling over to Stratford at 11am from Digbeth. I won't be heading back until this evening, but if you fancy putting some miles into the legs (maybe you'd want to get the train back) then i'll be outside Connells Estate Agents (towards the top of Bradford St) at 11am.
As i said - i'm not expecting anything, but sometimes, last minute suggestions can be a winner. -

i was going to text you, but failed. i was out that way at the same time. never mind. i'm creamed now - but managed to maintain a just-under-19mph average speed for two hours, which i'm pretty happy with. let's hope the pre-ride-protein suggestion works for me....

I am never riding with you!

No drama Dan. I had an absolute blinder. Got to my Stratford destination in 53 minutes, which was very pleasing - as was the weather.
Drop us a line/text tomorrow.

Shaneaze Reade is in Leamington on Sunday. Theres a 2012 festival going on with a load of Flatland BMX riding, and i think Shaneaze will be leading some kind of ride over to Cov.
See RHB's post above...

AFAIK Shaneaze won't be riding to Cov, that is a ride led by Mick Ives (Masters World Champ 5 times, over 3 disciplines) and his buddies.
The flatland is from inertiashows, although they're running a comp in Leics too I think, so not sure who will be in Leamington.
Should be good, if folks want to join the group ride it leaves from War Memorial Park Coventry at 10.30am

Flatland is cool. I can't even grisp half the tricks they do. In pubs on weeknights they should have professional flatlanders on stage instead of just musicians.
I reckon so...
