Consultation re Windmill Drive in Clapham Common

Lambeth Council proposes to permanently close Windmill Drive (the narrow road that divides Clapham Common). They propose the road be returned to green space while maintaining cycle and pedestrian access.

On Windmill Drive, a driver had a massive argument with a cyclist after cutting the cyclist up and beeping his horn at me. The driver got out and started running after the cyclist. I was in the middle, it was fun.

Icecream van? Don't you mean the burger stall? Which is where all the police congregate between shifts!

I had a crash with another cyclist on that road... and endless close calls with cars... if it happens it's a very good thing. The more roads they close to cars the better!

They were handing questionnaires on the Common. So I guess, send her an email and ask for one.

Because half the common is run by Lambeth and half by Wandsworth and they never have the same available resources / inclination at the same time. I 'think' the division is North - South along the footpath next to the cycle path which means Windmill Drive goes across both.

I have little faith in the ability of councils to do much alone - never mind together.

Yep you're right the division is noth south, kinda runs through where the bandstand is. It's at consultation, so as long as the residents approve and a councillor doesn't pull the plug it'lll happen. It's been talked about for around five years I think, and the money to do it is only available for another year, so it'll happen, 90% sure of it.

Make sure you send in your response, whatever your opinion. Consultations like this are sometimes flooded by a determined cabal of people for or against, and individual opinions count for a lot.

Re-uniting green spaces and reversing the trend to chop them up into smaller pieces is a very important task in London.
