Agreed, but if you're lucky enough to have decent hearing you're a mug (IMHO) if you propose not to let it work at keeping you safer. For example, even if I know there's a car behind me and how fast it's going, I get bonus clues from the engine note about whether the driver's content to continue at a constant speed or is preparing to overtake.
