My issue with iPods is as much a concentration and balance thing as a listening thing.
If you're a hearing person, Stick your fingers in your ears and stand on one leg, much harder than without.
Also when I listen to music I find myself drifting off into daydreamland. Can barely read a book at the same time let alone be in control of my bike.
Riding between lanes would get you a telling off from me as well. If you're not overtaking someone, get over to the left.
