Yes, the spider is attached to the crank with a lock ring.

Unlike the earlier model (Vigorelli) FSA have cured the slipping problem which affected some of the as you put it lesser/earlier models which used a similar system.

The FSA Vigorelli has a lockring on the back, joining the carbon spider to the arm, too.
