anyone missing a no-name blue ss with a fenchurch sticker where the headbadge should be, half painted black on the chain stays and seat stays, black drops, one brake (i think) and grips right up close to the stem? saw one been cycled around by a rather dodgy looking kid Chingford area, didn't quite fit in. can find out the exact name of the park and road when my girlfriend returns...

Me and Shippey had our geared road bikes stolen last night from our supposedly secure communal garden in Bow.
They were locked but the bastards used power tools to cut through the locks. The security guard did see it happening but admitted he didn't feel he could do much against 4 of them and all he had to protect himself was a torch.
Mine was a Bianchi 48cm and Shippey's was a 51/52cm Kinesis Racelight, both grey with carbon forks.
Anyway here's the clearest pic we have. If you see them please punch whoever's riding them and let me know, cheers.

why did he not call the police??
supposed to be a sercurity guard. -

Apparently he did, and they drove around the outside of the development, didn't even come in.

His Specialized was stolen from the National Hospital for Neurology not far from Russell Square tube stop and the British Museum around 10am.
It appears his locks were probably quite inadequate. He doesn't recall what they were but he bought them at Decathlon.
nice bike + cheap lock = good opportunity.

I can't blame the security guard for not wanting to get involved in that case. Police a different matter.
Sorry to hear that Ali, what locks did they cut through? Do you know roughly how long it all took?

We had an abus granite x d lock and a cable lock, we should have had another lock really but reckon they would have gone through them both anyway. Wish I'd kept them in the flat like I was doing for the past 2 years at my old house.
D lock was one of these
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Abus_Granit_X_Plus_54_30cm_D_Lock_With_USH_Bracket/5360028495/
Not sure how long it took but the sawing of the lock woke my house mate up, she didn't go down to chase them away unfortunately. Can't blame her really.

with a power tools mate, I doubt there's any lock apart from those alarmed one (£30 that clamp on the bike) will prevent those.

I've been following this thread for quite some time now and the stories here truly amaze me.
I come from a rather safe city (Munich that is) and the fact that thieving cnuts feel comfortable enough to enter your houses and secured backyards and use powertools etc is just astonishing.I keep reading "I'll check bricklane on sundays" once your bike was stolen.
That place seems to be THE spot for selling and buying stolen goods and fuck knows what's going on there besides that, but it seems to be an open secret and everyone knows about that but the police?! Why don't they go there and just blow the whistle on that place? Also what's all the CCTV for? For some voyeurs amusement? Because that doesn't seem to be of any help in your cases aswell..
The police and the law seems far too careless about this situation..
I visited London only once, but the way some bikes were locked up, and you obviously need to do that, is just ridiculous: multiple D-Locks, cables, quick released seats etc.
I feel pity for you how this affects your personal freedom if you know what I meanYou all should go about that really..organize a demo or sth.
Good luck to everyone to get their bikes back!

The police are unwilling to do anything about Brick Lane (and it isn't just bikes - there's a whole shed of tools for instance, many of which will have "gone missing" from sites and vans) because they're managed in a way that prioritises statistics and "productivity" above all else. Anything they do at Brick Lane is going to be complicated and fiddly and get the officers involved no more credit than handing out some fixed-penalty notices to pissheads anyway, so there's understandably very little enthusiasm.
CCTV demonstrably has no over all effect on crime whatsoever - the crims pretty rapidly clocked that one blurry, pixellated figure in a marl-grey tracksuit looks pretty much like another once they started showing excerpts on Crimewatch. At the most, it moves the problem about a bit.

so my birds bike was nicked the other week from behind our flat...
a really nice early 70s motobecane singlespeed tourer in blue- lovely bike locked with a piece of poo lock.
the only satisfaction i get from this act of theft is that in my usual procrastinating way I hadn't bothered to change the cranks from the 178mm stronglights i put on in a moment of madness. point being, when the horrible little cunt who took it tries to take his first corner at speed and doesnt keep his foot up hes gonna have himself a very nasty misfortune.... come on karma -

At Brick Lane on Sunday, this guy was selling a geared bike with a d lock locked onto the front wheel, when the guy buying it asked why the seller said that he tried to sell it before, and the bloke he was selling it to put the lock on before he'd bought it, then decided against it.
the guy now buying then stood there as the seller took the lock off by hammering a screw driver into the lock barrel, bought it and rode off.
how can you buy a bike so clearly nicked! -

Ah Munich, that cosy comfy town!
If this was Germany they would sort it out, but Britain's shit isn't it?

And a campaign is a great idea, god knows it could do with it. I wouldn't expect the local MP to be much use though:

Oh and sorry for three posts in a row, but I wasn't suggesting better locks would have helped in this case - just wondered. By the sound of it an alarm wouldn't even have helped as people nearby knew what was going down but didn't want to intervene.

So by the looks of this gumtree ad, my bike was stolen by some prick who lives in the block of flats across the road from me:
http://www.gumtree.com/london/96/42165196.html
I tried to set up a meeting with him on Sunday to get the bike back but he was a no show. A friend called him today and apparently the bike has now been sold.
The police have been unhelpful and are not pursuing it and I don't know which flat this prick lives in. Any ideas for how I can take my revenge on the world?
P.S. if anyone knows of someone who bought a Charge Plug Racer off Gumtree in the last few days, tell them they are riding stolen property and that karma will come and get them one day.

Perhaps not stolen but misplaced!
I won't go into details but I left my bike somewhere in the West End on Monday night but can't remember where. It is a Litespeed Appalchian 49cm frame size. Very unusual and distinctive bike fitted with son hub front wheel, FSA carbon seat post, rear pannier rack. Old style yellow Litespeed decals.
Have you seen it? Do you know where it is?
£150 reward for the person who locates it.
Thanks for any help you are able to provide.

Any info or sightings please call me straight away. 07984 276096. I will reward whoever finds it as well.
Sixar frame, dark grey.
Wolber GTX rear wheel on Suzue hub.
Fizik saddle.

Lost my beloved Kiyo last night at Bistroteque. Had it locked up with a crappy lock, but kept an eye on it most of the night, was distracted for a little too long inside and it was gone.
Sugino crankset, dura-ace seatpost, slim selle-italia seat with black checkered cover, nitto 90 stem, ambrosio rims and hubs, euroasia imports sprockets(one black and one chrome), black Strong-V grips, black leather double toe-straps, njs cages, gatorskins.
The seat is the one on the first picture, but the rims are in the second.
Will pay solid ransom!!!

Brushed titanium finish. Mud carbon fork. Yellow Litespeed decals. Shimano 105 triple. Very unique bike unlikely to be one other like it in London.
Good place to look between Baker Street to the West, Tottenham Court Road to the East, Marylebone Road to the North and Oxford Street to the South.
