really don't.

my mum made a similar turn after hearing a report on fixed gear bikes from a regular ignoramus,
find someway to appease and reassure your parents, get a brake or helmet for the meantime and then lose them after a while.don't offer to show them that you can come to stop faster than other bikes by lifting the rear wheel in the air. this will not/did not reassure.

Could you list what your mothers objections are?
This may prove helpful in refuting them.

YouTube - Butthole Surfers : Sweat Loaf
Listen to this. Then kill your dad, and wear his skin whilst riding the offending bike, demonstrating to your mother that it's fine. OPTIONAL Then have sex with your mother. Then take off your dad's skin, and wait for her to say it's fine to ride your bike cos your dad said so.
He admits that he is gay and you post a tune from the Butthole Surfers ffs ;o))

Or buy a normal bike and keep you fixie at a "friends" tainted love of a fixie will then become "special" ;o))

@CrazyJames&Balki: I paid for the bikes with my own money, so technically they haven't bought me any bikes.
but pocket money is from your parents so really they bought it. get a job, buy your own bike and tell your mum that you're going to ride it and you'll be careful.

Spoilt brat. Do as you're told and go clean that pit of a room.

Your legs are a better stopping mechanism than a rim brake, especially in the wet. Seriously.
That's why all the pros are riding fixed in this year's Tour is it?

Take up a Class-A drug of your choosing, drop out of school, hang around the house watching TV and masturbating.
A day in the life of |³|MA3K then?? ;-p
Dear Mum, when I am riding my fixed gear bike I am very content which means I am not tempted to hang about on the streets causing mischief, drinking alcopops, smoking cigars, shaggin, sniffing glue, going to raves, befriending skinheads, happy slapping, ad infinitum.
What the fuck's wrong with glue sniffing skin heads??

Punctuate as you will...

So, is the problem riding to school or riding in general?
I would do as others have said. Do some sort of alibi, token response to their concern and then do whatever you want when they aren't looking.

a) surely ( well actually, i god dam hope that) whatever riding your doing on your mtb is more dangerous than riding a fixed gear?
Plus your fake falcon beater is probably more dangerous than riding a fixed gear bike because the brakes probably don't work anyway. If you live somewhere very hilly you can easy hit 40-50mph on a geared bike, you wont do that on a fixed with 42-18
b) your 15, fuckin do whatever you want, your meant to fuck shit up/piss off your parents and smash yourself to pieces.

My daughters are a little older than you (17 and 18). If they were riding 41x18 I would tell them to HTFU.
LMAO!
Show them an alley cat, preferably london calling. Tell them that you want to start racing competitively.

I'm surprised that you went into a strop instead of asking your mum *"well, if you think it's dangerous, what can I do to help make it safer mum?"

If you dont know how to put a bike together yourself I agree with your mum. Especially if you got her to pay for it.

But he probably doesn't go to school on the Ventoux, so it's not really the same thing.

When I was 15 my parents noticed I'd taken the brakes off my BMX and asked me if I was retarded. I may have responded with, "well I wouldn't be surprised looking at you two."
Apparently this is a faux pas with parents. -

i refuse to drink or do drugs
that right there is your problem, develop a crack habit and give the rents something to really think about. Or just move out, I had lived on my own for the better part of a year by your age.
-
• #99
I agree with your mother. If you have to get a shop to put the bike together, it's most likely you won't have the tools or know-how to maintain the bike, therefore potentially making it unsafe.
Shouldn't you be in the park drinking WKD anyway?

All I wanted was a pepsi and she wouldn't give it to me.
Just one Pepsi, and she wouldn't give it to me...
Just stick a rear brake on for a few months to keep them happy then take it off once this has all blown over.
Oh yeah and post a photo of your mum
