  • dont worry

parents are meant to care for you

after my disaster at La Marmotte this year I phoned my dad (I had turned 35 2 days earlier). told him what had happened and his immediate response was "i think this cycling is a little dangerous and you should stop". i quickly ended the call

for a few minutes i was rendered speechless with rage and frustration, but then remembered that one of the reasons i love my dad is he will say things that i don't want to hear but he says them actually because he cares

explain to your mum that you appreciate her concerns and the motivation for them but that you will take all the relevant precautions (and training etc) and intend to be as safe as possible.

as someone who spent years battling with my father on a variety of issues all i can say is it took me growing up and understanding the motivation behind what my old dears would say to me. you then have the right to take or leave their advice (though I appreciate this can be a little more difficult when you live at home)

i am now bored of writing a vaguely sensible response and must return to normal service of abusing friends on here and swearing at drivers
