I did it in 17 hours and 11 minutes. It was a beautiful drive, through some amazing countryside on a gorgeous sunny day. I sat in the car as much as possible and was carried up the early climbs so not to leave the tank empty for Ventoux. The Col d'Ey is beautiful, with lavender fields and vineyards all the way up plus a very handy bus service to the top. After that my taxi skirted around the back of the Ventoux towards Sault so the looming presence of the mast on top was there, reminding you of what was to come.
I arrived in Bedoin in a hired limousine, so 4:45 in and hit the Ventoux confident that the driver would get up it. He was going fine until he hit the drink then the heat started to take it's toll, my left foot was sore as hell from kicking the back seat and I thought I was going to vomit. Took it steady with a couple of stops to apply more punches to his head and neck and was delighted when I got to Chalet Reynard as I knew then he'd make it. Had a glass of Dubonnet there which must've done the trick as I got a terrible wind and farted to the finish causing general distress. My split for the Ventoux was 2:17, which I guess isn't too bad given I'd been driven 150 kms before I got to it and had been on my yacht the week before.
An epic story told with refreshing honesty.

Ha.. that's clutching at straws even for us. We usually only claim good kiwis.
His old man is Aussie and he was born in Belgium but he refers to himself as British. If they really want to bang on about his dad, they should bear in mind he was a wife-beating drunk.

A fine upstanding citizen. Shame on any man too lazy to stand up to beat his wife*.
*The Seldom Killer in no way endorses wife beating unless she has been foolish enough to attack too early, in which case you really should teach her a lesson and take her on the line.

Nice one, Andy.
Still don't get this strange desire to go to foreign mountains and ride bikes up them though... Nonetheless, wicked.

You just don't get a climb much longer than 8k in this country. Where's the fun in that, they'd be over before you get going. The Col d'North Beers excepted obvs.

To be fair, I don't get the desire to do it up any hills, anywhere. Especially north beers.

Oh dear, looks like Evans has written himself out of the tour this year. All the Aussies can now sod off to the Ashes thread were you might just make second place ;)

Much better picture than those other streams.Been trying to view the various on-line video feeds but no joy here at work.
I always listened to the Eurosport audio feed at work but even these feeds have been restricted by our firewall. Even the BBC audio is a no no :(
Strangley video and audio via BBC iPlayer work so I've been able to catch the stages broadcast on 5Live Sports Extra.
Van Hummel to go on solo break from the flag drop and take 5 hours out of Contador to get yellow. Fo shizzle Van Hummel is da izzle.
