It was a clever fix and if it wasn't for having to deal with another blowout, I would have loved to see how long it could last.
Good ride nonetheless.

Bike shops must love you krazee skid kidz.
Thinking about it so do I, the more tyres bought, the cheaper they are for everyone!

Admit it, you've been secretly going up to White's Row car park. ;)

Yep something similar happened to me, same kind of surface (that beige stuff you always see when coming up to traffic lights), 4 consecutive downhill hairpins, me just finished watching Initial D, not a good combo:
Went through 3 tyres in a fortnight, expensive, but very, very fun.

Well, I kid you not, but that 'stuff' is actually known as 'anti-skid surfacing'. :)

So, if I'm interpreting this thread correctly, we have deduced that skidding on a rough surface will result in reduced tyre wear?

I skid you not.

And that sometimes the expense of replacing a tyre is worth the fun of the process of wearing the tyre =D

Most of them are a rougher surface than the road to be honest.

Yeah, and are full of roadworks, slow cyclists, confused pedestrains and white vans doing a u-turn.

It was worth it... just should not do it during a 50+ mile cycle ;)

Japanese Eurobeat (geographic music genre fail I know) and speedy cars, can't go wrong =D
I bet they had some tyre trouble too (vain attempt to keep on topic).
So, I was doing the London Bikeathon with D. Generate, and was messing around doing long skids. On waterloo bridge (I think) in the bike lane on that green painted stuff, I skidded for ages.. big deal, on we cycled through Chelsea... then bang! Rear tire blew out, thought thats a bit strange, spun the tire round and :

So... now what ? Armed with the burst inner tube, a knife, some glue and a bunch of patches:

MacGyver would have been proud. Quick mile and a bit cycle to Putney Bikes, one new tire and back on track.
Moral of story, don't mess around doing skids at the start of a long ride! (or carry spare tire)
