  • BTW its a piece of piss to make a chain whip tool. Provided you already have a chain breaker.

and are you gonna need a headset spanner and an old style BB tool?

I'd be tempted to just buy the tools as and when you need them. They don't have to be Park Tools but some of the cheap to mid range tools are pretty good.

Cone tools and pedal spanners are pretty essential though.

Maybe it'd be worth getting after all.

    I dunno.

  • Lidl are stocking a "Professional Racing Bike" from 22nd June. £750. 8.85kg Ultegra set, Continental Grand Prix tyres, Selle Italia saddle etc. The brand of the frame is Stratos. I am guessing this is not the Keirin brand!?!

Maybe next time they will do a fixed gear wheel cycle bike?

  • A fixed gear wheel cycle bike?

Someone needs a strong coffee ;-)

I was trying to be amusing.

  • cool. I'm still wearing the softshell jacket from last special at Aldi - wearing ok - the reflective stuff has all come off, and the stitchings not that great on the sleeves, and the white is now a kinda grey/off white, but other than that!

  • I bought winter cycling gloves in Aldi three years ago for 2.99. Warm, windproof and still going strong minus the smell... can't complain.

  • can anyone comment on the quality of the floor pumps? i need a second one and they are bloody cheap. im not going to buy it if its total crap though.

I bought the Aldi version earlier this year. Crap.

  • I've heard they're alright. Nothing amazing, but not as shit as you would think.

  • Hmm... conflicting comments. I'd disregard mine.

  • And mine.

  • i got one of the £4.99 floor pumps last year, works ok for home use, and pumps actually quite fast! for less than a fiver you cant go wrong. maybe i will treat myself to a pair of their shoes for the mtb:)

  • I got an Aldi (or Lidl) floor pump a year or two back. Absolute shit. My Decathlon pump is awesome though.

  • I bought a £4.99 Aldi pump - the valve closing bit on the head broke almost straight away. Meh.....

  • Had a Lidl £4.99 one, gave it away - no-where near 100psi before the pump tube/pipe bit burst.

    They're utter shit.

  • lidl floor pump broke on first use

These look surprisingly ok, for 'casual' spd shoes. Tempted.

  • Lidl: where female workers are made to wear special headbands when on their periods.

I think they're all bad, my mates scared me off primark with the slave kids eating out of dog bowls :-0

  • sorry to soil the dream, but do you guys really think that someone, somewhere is not getting fu*ked bad to make these prices, puppies, kittens and kids....... bad times !!!

  • I wouldn't shop at any of these shops now, least of all to buy cycling gear, for reasons to do with the nature of their businesses but also because I think it's worth supporting the reputable cycling trade.

Also, buying quality in the first place always pays off in the longer run. I tend to go by the rule of spending more and enjoying it for longer. The cheap stuff will tide you over for a while, but even if it doesn't fail catastrophically, simply won't last for as long as good quality.

  • schick
    wise words !

  • OK to an extent - but in terms of things like undershorts, socks, the odd top, I can't seen any discernable increase in overall qaulity of garment between a pair of cycling socks for £2.49 from Lidl and a pair of..say...X Socks for approx £7? They do the same job.

  • that road bike is very cheap for the groupset. Surely the comprimise will be in the frame and ride quality
