  • I don't know, if you want to have the best of both world, I find that having a track frame and a road fork offer me the best comfort.

slightly (very slightly) less zippier than with a track fork, but a bit more comfortable for doing 100 miles a week.

Assuming the road fork has more rake than the track fork, you are actually making the bike *less *stable and more zippy or bungle or whatever that means.

Which is what you want on the road imo.

The Decade Convert2, Frame and fork are £375....

I like it also, though it appears that Kinesis had a good long look at what Fixie.Inc and Condor were doing, before releasing what they felt would be a popular effort.

They say plagiarism is the finest form of flattery. Also, Kinesis have stated elsewhere, that the frame and forks may be £500. Though, I'm hoping thats incorrect.

  • Dom from KinesisUk here. Actually, I had never seen those 2 bikes! [condor and Fixie] I made a point of doing what I wanted to do, rather than looking too much at what others were doing. The bike with the Black fork is a prototype, unfortunately we didn't have the finished one for the show, so yes, the t. tube is too long and the rear centre too long also. The rear dropout is also at p.type stage [it also has paper decals and the fork is the wrong colour!!] Maybe next time I won't show a bike that isn't finished : [
Welds and finish are now very nice.
The Convert2 is part of a range of 3 bikes [called DECADE] that are all about adapability, it's not really for the 'purists' out there!
We are not trying to be 'Hip', otherwise we would have released a track frame 2yrs. ago. We provide framesets that really work for the intended use and are the type of frame that we would like to use. The graphics are hand drawn by one of my favourite UK artists and are used on the whole range.

  • I love it when the creaters get on the forum.

  • Yep, I love that Pure Blood but I do think it's ridiculously overpriced for what it is. You'd be better off getting a Singular Peregrine:

Fixie inc. used to be loads cheaper, then they got a new distributer...

  • Ha! Don't normally get sucked in, but sometimes it's neccessary to try and set the record straight a little!

  • This is londonfgss.com... we don't do facts man! We do slander, libel, berating, criticism, hate, flaming and cheese cake baking. :0)

  • right. give me some time. I'm pretty sure I can come up with something.....

  • Dom from KinesisUk here. Actually, I had never seen those 2 bikes! [condor and Fixie]

I'm sure the forum as whole appreciates you taking the time to set the record straight, but... really?! If that's true how do you think that reflects on your role within a bicycle frame manufacturer? The condor, especially, is a fairly standard off the peg from a well-known manufacturer, and you'd never seen it before??

  • Difficult to argue with that logic

  • Ohh right here we go. Of course I've seen the Potenza, but I'm guessing that GA2G was refering to the colour scheme being similar. The ones I have seen are Black I think. The fixie, nope, don't recall seeing that model. Not going to rise to you questioning my role though.

Thanks for taking the time to come online and answer. Much appreciated. When will your Decade Convert2 be on sale, and where?

My (possibly misguided) comparisons were a back-handed compliment; as the other bikes I mentioned are quite good looking. As is your effort.

  • Pretty good at £599.99. But I think the photo is misleading, when the specced rims are Weinmann SP17, but the photo show H+Sons (or a look-alike). Also, the tyres will be Kenda Koncept 700x23, and in black, not the white shown.

I suppose the photo reflects what Kinesis believes customers will eventually have their bikes look like.

  • Hi GA2G.
Glad you are liking the frameset! It will be on sale from the dealers that we have on our Kinesis Bikes site here [DECADE site will be up nxt wk].
The bike is one that we built up for shows and yes, just to show how a build could look on the website. [it says under the pic. "Representation only. Build kit above is just to show how complete bike could look, actual build kit and pricing is listed below. Please call or view DECADE website for correct fixed pictures"] Rims are H+Sons from Brick Lane that I built onto some hubs I had, and bars/stem are 'borrowed' from a Langster! We also built up a Black one in full geared/'guarded mode.
Thanks for posting the pics, appreciated.
Please mail me from the Kinesis UK site if you need to know more.

  • forgot to say, Convert2 framesets are due into the UK April 9th. The complete bikes will be ready in August [fixed and geared/'guarded versions].

  • Update 13/03/09
Fixed bikes should be with us late May.
    Geared ones are due August.

  • whats this apparel range which you speak of? what kind of stuff you going to do?

  • Sammy, I'm not doing any apparel. I'm not a business. If you mean Kdom (from Kinesis) then maybe its not a bad idea to address the question to him.......
Otherwise the question most obviously is directed at the person who posted just before yours.

    Just a suggestion like.

  • This bike is proving to be that little bit of an enigma. The middle to front of the bike look ready for speed,
but the rear is spaced to take mudguards and/or a rack for (light) touring, hence the rear isn't tight, as the front view suggests.

Not bad, and should be on the roads next month.

  • Looks ok, the introduction of integrated/internal headsets into bikes these days depresses me though..... integrated seat clamps, those are shit as well, surely they can think of more effective ways to save weight than to resort to these stupid measures, is this a case of the blind leading the blind, or just plain stupidity?

  • i quite like the integrated headsets...just a cleaner look.... maybe
